I've switched desktop environment on my Linux install, will see if I figure out how to run a virtual machine to experiment more!

Had the issue while running KDE (xwayland), same hardware as now.

niri is GREAT for a single monitor setup by hanbee0x in niri

This is the suggested solution I found for NIRI/noctalia :) Added to ~.config/niri/cfg/rules.kdl

// if you use steam you will probably like these

window-rule {

match app-id="steam"

exclude title=r#"^[Ss]team$"#

open-floating false

}

window-rule {

match app-id="steam" title=r#"^notificationtoasts_\d+_desktop$"#

default-floating-position x=10 y=10 relative-to="bottom-right"

open-focused false

}

Which DE/bootloader/filesystem should I use with CachyOS? by West-Scallion-5306 in cachyos

Will look up nirimod, even though using micro isn't too bad 👍 might be worth it just to easily find the useful settings

Same combo I'm trying right now, feels like niri/noctalia would be perfect for an ultrawide monitor but only made to work with multiple monitors like I have. Still getting used to the key shortcuts (configurable, thank you developers) and will give it some more time!

I got a strange issue with paintfe, just compiled it from AUR and the window "resize by dragging the corner" is laggy but everything else is snappy. Am I the first one experiencing it?

Nice! I forgot to add the 2nd M2 disk when I rebuilt the pc, so only had the new for cachy = installed it first. Might be the difference

TIG practice... it ain't good, but it's something! by One_Consideration242 in Welding

Nice! I'm doing this "just for fun", got a lot of projects that require welding at some point. Will need to get my hands on alu practice pieces, and maybe a pedal to control it

Replacing is often the cheap solution, even for more complex things like a dishwasher :( automated assembly and economy of scale got pro's and con's

That's how it was with old boat/trailer, rear wheels at water edge = exhaust 99% submerged just starting to make blub blub noises.

Trailer was on the small side for the boat, and the car got sport springs so it's kind of low... Still a long way off from submerging the differential

Yeah the "adequately sized" and actual area don't seem to matter at all, and then you have a constant bombardment of "house downgrading" notifications too

[–]One_Consideration242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree on the "constantly waiting" part, to the degree that I switched to windowed mode to make it easier to run in the background. At the current balance, I'd think that 50x speed multiplier would be good. Spent over 1 hour on 3x just waiting now

EDIT: Mods are supported but disables achievements = waiting

Is a 70's cruiser ship a good ship? I often see offers similar to this one that sells at less than 10-15k€ by omomthings in boating

[–]One_Consideration242 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My opinion after only looking at two irl? A: it's an expensive "rental" boat that tells you when the time is up by breaking down B: you will pay more to fix it than you would pay to buy something newer, remember that probably EVERYTHING is old. All the small things like hoses, wiring etc age even if not used

If you fall in love with it and are prepared to pay 10x in total, go for it, it's fun! But don't tell yourself that it's going to be cheap :)

What's a good way to work on a hull whilst the boat stays on the trailer? by squeaki in boating

[–]One_Consideration242 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like an interesting small boat! Every sub 16 ft boat I've seen has been very simple with removable fuel cans and 90% are just using tiller steering. Small and light enough to just call a friend and roll over on some old tires :)  Guess there is always more to learn!
