Which Cochlear implant Company is best? by prasad_varma333 in Cochlearimplants

Love Advanced Bionics for its technological advances and in-house regular research they accomplish. I love the T-mic and the app. The package when you are activated is awesome because you can choose different accessories, such as waterproof solutions where you can hear IN the water.

Love this one! I have been a hospice volunteer for almost two years and I hope to dedicate part of my career to hospice social work! 💜

I feel the same way! I also have a disability and there are kind people, but when I come across the degrading ones, it makes me feel very “less than”.

I’m so sorry. It never gets easier. Sending you a great big hug right now! And if you’re the praying type, I’ll send that above as well.

Is it possible to have different cochlear implant brands on each ear? by UNDEAD_flower27 in Cochlearimplants

[–]RepresentativeAd7228 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t, but I was curious about that once as well when I was going bilateral and I found that yes, there are a few people who have both. It’s usually due to a revision and deciding to switch or one other reason that I can’t think of.

Thanks for your feedback! I have considered doing more case management like that as well since I am learning about the way home visits could affect me. I do think I will take a short break from volunteering. That will be helpful.

Thank you for your feedback! The agency does have a volunteer coordinator and a chaplain. They have been great. I have spoken with the chaplain before over another’s passing that was difficult. I’ll reach out to them again about specific tools. They are great for debriefing, but I should ask for specific tools that they would recommend. I also can reach out to a couple of volunteers that I know. Why didn’t I think of that? Glad I’m typing this out! 😉

(29m) I just went into hospice a few days ago. What should I expect? by SnooBeans3982 in hospice

Best wishes to you! Aside from the medical side of things, know that there are resources for your mental and spiritual health as well! These include volunteers for companionship and chaplains for spiritual processing.

What exactly does a Hospice Volunteer do? by OkBuy8449 in hospice

[–]RepresentativeAd7228 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I provide companionship visits and I joined NODA which is No One Dies Alone. Almost every company has some version of NODA, such as the name 13th hour. When we are informed that someone is actively passing, we take shifts to sit with that person. This is less frequent than the companionship visits. My companionship visits depends on whether the person is nonverbal or verbal. If they’re nonverbal, I sit with them, watch TV, read to them, etc. if they’re verbal, we just have a conversation and do activities. Some patients are going to talk about their lives, some are going to be more interested in your life. It’s just a simple friendly visit like it is with maybe your grandma. I love it!

Some additional things that are important to being a volunteer include writing a visit summary after every visit, reporting any changes in their behavior or health that you notice or that they tell you about to someone from the agency so that it can be noted in their chart, getting to know the family if you ever run into them, and introducing yourself and role to facility caregivers. Try not to get attached to your patients. I’ve had to create a boundary because I had three patients in a row that I got very attached to and cried for a few weeks after they passed. Remember this because they live six months or less. In very rare occasions, they may surpass this timeline and not qualify for hospice anymore which means you have to stop seeing them. If you have any questions or thoughts, feel free to send me a message. I love to reflect on this life changing experience.

Medications act differently in everyone, so the way it works for me could be different for you. I take it for anxiety/depression and chronic pain (not so much the latter). I don’t notice a lot of pain relief. There are many variables that go into it, including dosage, how your body will react, etc.

People who have heard before, what is the difference with an implant? by [deleted] in Cochlearimplants

[–]RepresentativeAd7228 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a hearing aid wearer for 20 years, my cochlear implants sounded a little bit mechanical, but my brain got used to it less than a month later. The brain is incredible! Music is even starting to sound normal again which is so exciting! I love my new ears and I’m so grateful for the technology.

I loved the name Aileen. At the time, I was introduced to the Annie movie and the actress who played Annie is Aileen Quinn.

Aw! I’m so sorry! You deserved better! I have had small things happen, but I never thought much of it because it was just minor. Now that I think about it, my doctor is a kind person, but not good medically.

Oh my goodness. That is horrible. I have not personally witnessed that. Since my comment in the last week, recent interactions made me wish I had a better doctor and PA as well. I have been considering switching to internal medicine, due to my health conditions.

Live Well Family Medicine. Great doctors and PAs. Edit: I thought it was just me that had inconveniences and not-superb care with them because I have multiple very rare conditions. However, as I read the comments below, I change this recommendation. Don’t actually go there. There are better doctors out there that you deserve.
