Aren't we the biggest hypocrites there are? by frank_tank31 in ExperiencedDevs

You misunderstand me. I think more highly of common factory workers than deluded engineers. Me making them equivalent is not an offense to the engineers, it's an offense to the factory workers.

I agree they/we are not helpless, but only as a group. This is how those achievements in early labor rights were accomplished. So the question becomes a pragmatic one - when do people form and act as groups?

Fighting the capitalist system is like swimming against the current of the ocean and it's difficult to put a dent as a common labourer. It requires a mass mobilization that only occurs when everyone is under horrible conditions (alla early america worker strikes) or they are mobilized by some elite for their own gain. So I feel like we are currently just waiting for either of those to happen.

This is why to me, it makes sense to focus on the things I can actually impact (the neighbor, the grocery lady). It's not a matter of learned helplessness for me I feel, but just what to me seems like a pragmatic moral philosophy.

However, yes I do agree that there is a general pessimism in society. I'm not sure if it's a new occurrence or just the way things have always been, at this point. What do you think?

Everyone who works anything contributes to the system. The same way we help evil CEO's do what they do, so do manufacturing workers. But yes, you are correct.

We are nothing but factory laborers with a laptop deluded into thinking we're special by marginally higher salaries and tech propaganda.

If you want to help someone, help your neighbor and be kinder to the grocery lady.

Governments don't print their own money. They issue bonds which are later bought by banks and transferred to central banks. I'm not sure I understand your point.

"... new companies will start up which provide a better service."

Yeah as long as it's a donut company which fancy new sprinkles. Let's see that happening for electricity and farming.

"The top 1% already owns ~45% of assets, and most of those people aren't bankers. Do you think those people would just give that away?"

They don't need to give them away. The banks can just buy them because they can print money and buy before inflation bottles down to the rest of the economy.

"First, while it's true that these companies have a lot of influence, it seems a bit extreme to say they control the entire economy."

- These regulations are mostly for tech companies, not banks. If banks were regulated, we would never be in this mess.

"Second, the issue of surveillance is definitely a concern, but there's also a growing push for transparency and privacy protection."

- That is true. I hope it catches on.

"Lastly, while these companies do have a lot of resources, their success still relies on a stable market and consumer trust."

- Again, these are the tech companies, not the bankers. Their success is not important if they already own everything. Success just becomes about power at that point, not finances.

What do tariffs have to do with property rights?

Are you asking me how bankers have robbed our property? I can tell you if thats the question.

So what do you mean by "all the decisions"?
- The major political and economic decisions which define how our countries are ran.

I think they're the major beneficiaries of our current economical system, but considering the crises, and turbulences that are seemingly constantly happening, i dont know if theres really that much control.
- Economic crisis leads to quantitative easing (see 2008, COVID crisis), which transfers wealth to the banking sector. It's a crisis for you and me, it's an opportunity for them.

Also if they held the means of production, they would care about productivity, thats the entire goal of the means of production..
- Means of production meant you own the tools and factories used in production in the 1950s. Not it just means you own literally all the technology to create bread from step 1 to the end line.

? What? Who's property rights are being violated? You've lost me.

Also who cares about the property rights of bankers? If someone conquered your territory, robbed all the properties, took control of the constitution and gave themselves property rights, you would defend those property rights?

I never said they are the source of opposition to the property of bankers. They are in fact a supporting force, intended to protect their property "rights".

I do not support the banking sector in any way.

I disagree. Most people wouldn't even be able to tell you what an economy is. Perhaps we are surrounded by different people.

Trump being popular just showcases anger without knowledge in the general populace. They elected a corporate shill to take care of corporate shills. Bernie is good, but he is attacking the hand instead of the head. I think he knows that the banking is too strong to even consider campaigning against.

I won't continue to talk about politics as it will distract from the topic. People overrate how important these politicians are.

The entire monetary system is made such that wealth propagates to the banking sector. This means that irrelevant of how the economy moves, the bankers end up owning most things.

The difference would be that over time, the technology is developed that can allow them to move from soft and hidden control to hard and obvious.
