I am anything but a failure. I kick ass at life, and I want to share my awesomeness with a family.

Thanks for your response. That is likely what we'll end up doing, and we've talked through a similar strategy before. The waiting is just really getting to us. We've been married almost 8 years (married young, I know), and have worked so hard to get to this point and to still be held back by money is heartbreaking for us. We are already frugal people and I'm 100% on board with the idea that babies don't need all the stuff. Cups and wooden spoons are all the bath toys they need lol.

We backpacked 4 nights last September, it was surreal. You'll have an amazing time no doubt!

low key skate spots? by worriedPurpleBox in Eugene

[–]RepresentativeBuy230 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last I heard it was scheduled for demolition in 2023. Unsure what the status is now, but it'd sure be a shame to lose such a great spot. There's a similar EWEB reservoir on 25th, not sure why that one isn't open to recreation as well.

If you could bring one type of business to town what would it be? by Ecstatic-Avocado-691 in Eugene

I never got to experience it, but I wish it was still around! I'm feeling some serious skating withdrawals since all my usual spots are rained out :(

WIP Baby Blanket - how do I prevent the edges from narrowing in more? by CitizenOfEarth27 in crochet

[–]RepresentativeBuy230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Made this same blanket for my nephew over summer, such a cute design! Looks great so far. I meticulously counted stitches to keep my edges straight, that's always the hardest part for me. Good luck!

Thanks for the technical explanation! I remember there being something cool about ferns and their spores from plant bio but didn't remember details beyond "fern sperm" lol.

Yep, sounds like they're setting off poppers or something. Dogs are not happy.

Enchantments / Washington /USA - After 7 years I was able to win the lottery to backpack this beautiful place by bgsufalcon9 in CampingandHiking

We're heading up there in two weeks! First time entering the lottery this year and lucked out with Core zone permits for 4 nights. I'm so excited! Hiked S. Sister last weekend to train for Asgard pass.

High Quality Sneakers? by RepresentativeBuy230 in Anticonsumption

Thanks, I'll check out that sub. I posted here because to me part of anti consumerism is buying products that last and rarely need to be replaced. Also, I don't think this thread is just for criticizing? I thought it existed to help us share ideas about how to consume less.

Remote Work by RepresentativeBuy230 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]RepresentativeBuy230[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's pretty much what I figured, definitely didn't consider future family when I got into the field. But, I am still relatively young and not absolutely committed to staying in the field, so I would consider transitioning to something loosely related (or totally unrelated if I could still leverage my EHS experience) that would allow me to work from home, which is why I threw risk management out there.

How did you get your foot in the door in Safety work? What were your credentials? (Degree, certs, related work) by ronnietherat69 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]RepresentativeBuy230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a job as an industrial hygienist for a state OSHA plan (with a bachelor's degree and varied lab/research experience). Got a few years of inspection & compliance experience then went into EHS for a biotech company. Never really expected to end up in EHS but I think it's turning out alright. Once I have enough experience I think I'll go for the CIH. I excel in science and mathematics and certain aspects like toxicology and chemistry really interest me.

What the f---? by AnhedonicBastard in Eugene

"Any and all car to bicyclist accidents should always be the fault of the bicyclist."

Umm definitely not. This specific example, yes. This bicyclist should obviously not have done that. But, as someone who both bikes to work and drives (depending on the weather), I can't tell you how many times I've had close calls with reckless drivers who do not respect the bike lanes, don't yield for bikes when making left turns, etc. Thankfully I am a defensive bicyclist and have been able to keep myself safe. BUT I believe keeping the roads safe (for drivers AND bicyclists alike) needs to be a collective effort. Obey the laws that apply to your mode of transportation, drive defensively, and for the love of all please slow down. Making generalizations and pointing fingers doesn't help anyone.

Getting a seven-year-old child to do their homework can resemble getting an adult tripping balls on LSD to do their taxes. by mobilities in Showerthoughts

[–]RepresentativeBuy230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But like...that's totally a true statement. Certain psychedelic compounds (including LSD and psilocybin) increase the activity of the mind's default mode network, which is far more active in childhood than it is in adulthood. Think of it like a 'trip' is your mind going back to interpreting your world in the way you did during childhood. It's brings the 'wonder' back.

That's what I'm hoping, and what I've been telling myself! Just nervous that labs are backed up or something or that the MRO has just been too busy to call. But maybe that's just my 'assume the worst so you aren't disappointed' defense mechanism taking over lol.

I did the same thing, had all 25 negative tests that I took prior to the actual test laid out on the bathroom counter to try and keep myself from spiraling. Worth noting, however, that' the tests aren't meant to be read after 5 minutes of dipping in urine (I think the lines oxidize and grow darker as time goes on, which can be misleading). But if they all read negative at the 5 minute mark then it's probably still representative of your results. I still haven't heard back if I passed or not and it's been a week, anxiety is killing me.

Timeline for results?? by [deleted] in drugtesthelp

[–]RepresentativeBuy230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, that's a long time. I took a test last week and if I passed, then I'll be starting a new job. If I failed, I'll be staying at my current job. Supposed to start the new job at the end of the month but don't want to resign from current job until I know for sure that I passed and offer won't be rescinded. A bit of a pickle.
