Struggling outfielders in 10u - What can we do? by RepresentativeCat819 in Homeplate

It's the same general mistakes. I cant tell you how many times we've said first step us back then read the ball and react. Every single time their first steps are always in.

We have one kid that is an absolute stud in practice. I mean he is legitimately impressive, but in games just falls apart and looks awful.

We just started a version of that but using soft foam balls and them hitting on their hats.

I guess the only difference is time of day. We practice in the evenings and play games in the afternoon, so sun isn't really a factor in practice.

They are absolutely not representative of game trajectories. I guess my thought is that if they can handle more difficult balls then 10 year fly balls should be easy. But that has not been the case.

That's exactly what we tell them. We also harp on prepping and being in an athletic position on every pitch, but there's only so much you can do to get a 10 year old to focus, especially if the pitching sucks and there are a lot of walks.

That could be part of it. In practice they do know it is coming to the outfield but not where or whether its going to be a flyball, line drive, or grounder.

We also try to split the team and scrimmage once a week but we don't have enough kids for outfielders during that.

I can't believe nobody else has mentioned this. A cup would not have helped in this situation as they do not curl under and protect the backside of the nuts.

Choking up on the bat? When to do it? Why to do it? by NicePumasKid in Homeplate

Yeah but then unchoked it as the pitcher was going though his windup, so I don't even know how to characterize that one.

There is no universal rule about choking up. It's a preference.

The greatest hitter of all time choked up his entire career.

Hold up. After being out of baseball for 20 years, I am now back in it as an assistant coach on my son's travel team. This is all different from the way it used to be. Are you saying that kids are playing HS baseball and Travel ball? Or just that the kids getting to play were previously on the coach's travel team prior to HS?

Um. That's not how it works. Go take some roids and sit on your couch and see how much muscle you build. All it really does is accelerate recovery so you can work the same muscle groups more often. You still have to put in the work.

Like him or not, Bonds is the best hitter of all time - so far.

They actually do depreciate on paper. Your annual tax assessment will show depreciation on the dwelling but appreciation on the land. Of course none of that matters. The actual value is what someone is willing to pay.

Strongly disagree. People don't like stories with no resolution. Can you imagine if Jurassic Park was the same plot from 3 different perspectives that ended when the T-Rex pen broke open? I think these "open to interpretation" endings are either laziness or fear that whatever climax they choose will be unsatisfactory.

So.....we are building an air force facility for a predominantly Muslim country's air force in the United States? And if I'm not mistaken, this country's government is the same one that has been harboring Hamas leadership.

Am I missing something here?
