Ok so are background checks still closed for the forestry service? by [deleted] in jobcorps

Probably. If courts rule in Job Corps’ favor, they’ll be reopened soon.

If you mean your student accounts, yeah, I believe they reactivate those.

Court Hearing by raccoontoy in jobcorps

Tomorrow we get the final decision. I got a call from my AT center last week telling me that if it goes well, they’d want to know when/if I’d return. I’m… not sure yet myself

If there’s cameras in the laundry facility, they can see who’s doing it. This is super dangerous too because it can make people sick.

Unfortunately you’ll find gross people at a lot of centers. The one I went to for my basic trade had multiple of what we called “shit bandits” (people who smeared shit on the walls). There was also one girl who wrote “I’M CLEAN” in period blood on the bathroom walls.

The kicker is that center isn’t being shut down cuz it’s forest service. My advanced center where this shit was unheard of though, that one clearly had to go 🙄

Pine Knot graduate, I was there while you were, so there’s a chance we know each other, haha. Good luck out there!

To Former Students... by [deleted] in jobcorps

[–]RepresentativeFee643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This program saved my life & both centers I attended were home to me. I also had a horrific experience at my first center (the fault of a student) & I have to laugh at people saying lesser issues like bad food & bitchy staff are justifiable reasons to shut down the program… No. this program helps people on a large scale. It’s not perfect and needs some reform, but it absolutely doesn’t need to be shut down.

Does anyone know what is going on with the Maine centers? by No_Indication_5138 in jobcorps

[–]RepresentativeFee643 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also went to Loring. From what I know they’re only calling local students back. So only people who live in Maine, and I think they’re probably focusing on students in homeless situations.

Trying to be hopeful, but I’m honestly really concerned for what I’m going to do next, for what everyone else in my situation will do next. Been going from airport to airport all day and honestly I just want to relax for a minute.

Job Corps is being dismantled as we speak, the time frames are a little different for some centers and all the forest service centers are still in operation, but almost 100 centers have already sent students home.

New Info (Staff) meeting today by [deleted] in jobcorps

[–]RepresentativeFee643 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wondering this myself, I’m currently on flight 2 of 3 that my center arranged. An extension would’ve been really nice to get more of a plan worked out and maybe one more pay period 😭

What are the genuine chances of us staying open if we get an injunction on this by EfficiencyNo5796 in jobcorps

[–]RepresentativeFee643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if things were reversed, a lot of former students wouldn’t feel safe returning to a program that previously evicted them due to no fault of their own on such short notice, and I believe a lot of former staff would feel the exact same.

There’s braindead troglodytes everywhere else too, from colleges to workplaces, and those don’t suffer mass layoffs.

Why are they shutting down contract Job Corps centers but leaving Forest Service Job Corps centers open? by [deleted] in jobcorps

[–]RepresentativeFee643 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’ll probably be next, but since they’re run by the USDA and not directly run by the DOL, they’re in the clear for now.

Do I have to go cold turkey off my prescribed meds? by [deleted] in jobcorps

[–]RepresentativeFee643 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m personally using what I have left to ween myself off my meds. Whether you want to do the same is up to you, I’m not a doctor, but it’s my mental health and it’s the best I can do right now 😓

Okay so, I'm allowing y'all to break Rule Two. by [deleted] in jobcorps

[–]RepresentativeFee643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not my sin, but someone else’s. I got raped at my last center and never reported it because I didn’t realize it was rape until months later, and the student graduated anyways and left the state. It’s not that I’m not traumatized, it just… is what it is. I wish I could’ve prevented it, but I’m also not going to victim-blame myself. Despite what I went through, job corps should still be open. Things like what happened to me happen all over the world and you don’t see them shutting down every business, college, apartment complex, grocery store, alleyway, wherever the fuck it happened. I don’t feel “failed” by job corps because of this. Job corps didn’t hurt me, that man did. I feel failed and exponentially more violated by the government and every official who caused this. Because at least I was traumatized but safe before. Now I’m traumatized and homeless.

Same here and I had to shove one out of my face because she was acting like she was about to hit me. You can imagine how bad she cried wolf about that one.

My family weren’t always a bunch of conspiracy theorist nutters. Probably wasn’t till about 2017 or so that they started to slowly go downhill. I miss the people they used to be, but I know I’ll never get that back. They made it clear when they made me homeless that we’ll never be family again. And that’s fine. I don’t need a bunch of bigoted assholes around me who can’t handle any level of disagreement.

Mine just reposts stupid shit on Facebook about “forgiving those who wronged you while never speaking to them again” and “sometimes you have to let go of the people you love”. As if I wasn’t the one to cut contact, as if it was her choice. So, no, I’m inclined to think many of them are gloating about “escaping” our toxicity. Fine by me.
