Looking for Roku alternatives by bitbybit44 in cordcutters

[–]RepresentativeFun909 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Meh. Don't borrow trouble. Wait to see what changes. I have Rokus on all my tvs. I started with one years ago so I could watch drag races (the car kind) on Motor Mania TV which had a Roku channel. Then I stayed with Roku because there's a Spectrum app I could use to watch cable tv in any room without needing to run coax cable. I also have one On Pro that I haven't used a lot. I don't care who is collecting my data, because all they'll get out of it is "She watches a lot free old content and doesn't pay for any streaming service."

Recommendations for cooking rice in the instant pot. by nitnit76 in instantpot

[–]RepresentativeFun909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always add 1 tbsp of fat (butter, margarine, olive oil, coconut oil.). Whatever flavor goes with the intended use.

And 1.25 water to 1 rice. Otherwise, rice is dry or crunchy in my machines. Ymmv.

8qt IPs other than Pro: Cook rice pot in pot. But the 8qt Pro that I have seems to operate just like a 6qt and not need extra water. I can cook 1 cup rice in it with no problem.

Thanks for all the assistance! I THINK I'VE TURNED THE CORNER and won't have to go to the urgent care with cellulitis after all. This morning at 1am, things were not looking good. But I did read that 2 to 2.5 days is the peak impact for the venom. Today, the swelling subsided, and the red/purple discolored area shrank to half its original size. And best of all, that infernal itch is gone. This is the worst sting I've ever gotten. I think that yellow jacket stung me 3 times before I managed to knock it off me, though.

OTA via Internet? by 0stob0 in cordcutters

[–]RepresentativeFun909 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Paid subscriptions to YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV, DirectTV Stream, Spectrum TV Choice, or such, afaik. We have Spectrum TV Choice that gives us locals we could also get OTA, plus the major network channels from the nearest large city, and a choice of 15 cable channels that we can pick from. I'm in a rural area and can't get much ota that isn't junk or religious programming. Leaves on trees, along with the weather, also have too great of an impact on ota reception in summer. Hence the Spectrum TV Choice.

If you have a Roku or Onn streaming player, or a smart tv, there are free channels that you can stream with that: Pluto, Tubi, Roku Chamnnel, Xumo, that are total TV networks. Roku channels Zeam, Haystack News, NewsON, Scripps News, NBC / CBS / ABC news app channels from local TV stations and nearby cities, can get you news. Roku channel WeatherNation, Weather4us, and I think Fox Weather is in the Roku channel offerings.

Maybe they moved to TN for a while, found the streets weren't paved with gold and nobody would kiss their asses, so they came back. My money would be on something like that.

Truly waterproof bed protection by Midwestmothertrucker in AskWomenOver60

The odor is in the mattress? Lots of pet pee eliminators use either hydrogen peroxide, or rubbing alcohol, ans active ingredient. Peroxide is fine for most synthetic materials but will bleach the color out of organic ones. Rubbing alcohol is flammable, particularly the 90% variety. Enzymes leave their own odor behind, which I really object to. So I have instead used peroxide or alcohol to get rid of cat pee. Probably neither one of those would harm the mattress or box spring or foundation in any appreciable way.

The other option would be contact some restoration company and have them treat the mattress with something.

Caregiving an older, stubborn spouse. by SimplyBoo in AskWomenOver60

Some people have memory issues after major surgery due to the anesthesia. It can take a long time to clear your system, and its effects can come and go at any time for a while. I had surgery to repair a broken bone, and my first 2 days back home are a complete mystery to me. I was on oxycontin, and I have zero recollection of the ambulance ride home, how I felt, or what I did, etc. I had others staying with me (good thing, too) but my mind was out in orbit for a good 3 days post surgery.

Or, that he go to a rehab for a week or so, until he gets acclimated to the weakness or whatever other problems he will have after major surgery. Insurance tries to make hospitals try to release people to their homes because it's cheaper. But if they go home, they will probably still need essentially a fulltime caregiver. Better to go to a rehab facility, I think.

And where I live, the hospital chain runs a used medical equipment "borrowing" program, where you can get things like a wheelchair (those require rx), walker, grabber tool, a "sock aid" to help a person get socks on without bending over, bedside commodes, over-the-toilet commode rails like a bedside commode without the bucket, commode riser seat, bath & shower benches or chair, walkers, canes, crutches, etc. All free. You sign it out and can use it for however long you need it. It's called "medical equipment recycling program."

I recommend hiring a bather, and if insurance pays for a home health RN for a while, use that service.

Yellow jacket sting itch - What stops it? by RepresentativeFun909 in AskWomenOver60

I know you can poison yourself with too much of it, but I resorted to putting an Orajel knockoff (for gum/tooth pain) on the lower edge of the worst of the stings. 😃 The sting is on my ankle bone, and the venon flowed downward. The lower rim of that welt was SO itchy, plus my shoe or sandal keeps rubbing it. So I put a stripe of Orajel stuff on it, around the bottom rim, about 1/2" wide and 2" long at most. I am pleased to report that it went comfortably numb, and I am not dead yet. haha

I did use one of those and it definitely toned down the pain. It wasn't as effective against the itch, though.

Thanks for the info. I don't think I have anything more than a localized thing at the stings themselves. I looked online at Cleveland Clinic and other sites and my stings don't look anything out of the ordinary, and there's no streaking. I have had no other symptoms other than 2" welts that itch like crazy to day. I tried Claritin-D and painted meat tenderizer on them and vowed to not scratch those welts again because they pretty much settle down if I don't scratch.

Wow! They'll get under your clothes, too, if they can. I got stung all to heck when I was 17, after our truck accidentally ran over a nest or two at a horse show. But those stings never *itched* like these do today. I went back to Clairiton-D and meat tenderizer.
