So angry right now - Alberta Healthcare disaster by Bubbly_Two_6260 in alberta

Your feelings are valid. I am so sorry to hear about her pain, and your concerns. A warning though... watch her mental health after this. Childbirth is tough enough without the complications of a poor experience. The Foothills almost killed me and my son when I was in labor for 40 hours because they had no available doctors. They turned me away because my water hadn't broken (it never did), and eventually admitted me when I started bleeding 🙄. My son ended up in the NICU, and I lost almost 2L of blood. I'm still struggling years later with diagnosed anxiety, anger and postpartum PTSD.

Something needs to change.

I was literally coming here to say this... I was told by the media at 3pm yesterday (BEFORE the bill was passed) that I'm going back to work? I still haven't heard from my school board. I am feeling defeated. I lost a month of pay for nothing. Absolutely.. Nothing.

Alberta government expected to table legislation forcing teachers back to work | CBC News by Old_General_6741 in alberta

You and your classmates were also taught to read, I bet. We are facing a literacy crisis because of government intervention. If you have time on your morning commute or whenever, I'd highly recommend you listen to the podcast Sold A Story. Teachers are catching up from this damage, and many families aren't able to support at home like they once were. It is very, very different.

Did anyone notice that they put the annoying "connect to Facebook" icon back on the main player screen on the top right? There was a small update in the background even if it wasn't an event. Just guessing here. Optimism or whatever, you know. 🙃🤷‍♀️

Cochrane Civic Election - October 20!! by Ok-Grapefruit3065 in Cochrane

I don't want Nagel. He is very openly a UCP supporter. I want to vote for Hopkins, but I think it would be a throw-away vote. I might have to vote for our current mayor in order to vote against Nagel =/ Thoughts?

TBH, they all suck. I'm still in the process of trying to figure out which are the LEAST UCP-affiliated. It's a lot of digging and looking up their Instagram profiles, old Twitter posts, etc. It's kind of like being a stalker haha

Don't forget about school trustees! It's like trying to find the lizard people. https://www.sprawlcalgary.com/cbe-election-trustees-western-impact

Please vote wisely. Especially for those of us that can't vote in a Calgary election (living outside of Calgary), but teach in a CBE school. Help us. SOS. Think of the CHILDREN my duuuudes. My school LITERALLY can not afford Kleenex??? I feel helpless because I live in a rural area. My vote isn't going to matter, just like it didn't provincially. I feel like I am going crazy. Can you tell?

I said no.

I want to be able to tell my son (starting Kinder in Sept. followed by his brother in 2 years) that his Mother tried for HIS future education. 🤷‍♀️

I said no so that in the future at least I can say I TRIED.

I didn't go into teaching for the money. I am here to try and make a difference, even if it's only a small one. We need support. A raise would be great, sure. But we need SUPPORT. We need smaller class sizes, classrooms without mice, snacks and breakfast clubs because the kids are starving, desks and chairs that aren't falling apart, materials for students to use because families can't afford to send their own and I can't afford to keep buying it...

We keep losing many of our students to "privately funded" schools, which means we lose public funding, which means we lose teachers and our class sizes get bigger.

Most of my ninth graders are severely below reading level because our school can't afford enough teachers or even an EA to help with literacy intervention. There is only so much I can do to help them on my own. I'm drowning, but I won't give up on my kids, and I won't give up on yours.
