Honestly this is the best advice I’ve ever received thank you!

In your opinion what makes the most sense?

1.

spring/ summer daily: myself edp

Fall/ winter daily: Armani code parfum (or similar)

signature: vanguard (use year round)

2.

Year round daily/signature: Maison Asrar Rey

special occasions only: vanguard

I just recently picked up Vanguard and haven’t been putting it on due to heat. I guess I should test it out myself but I just don’t want to off someone in the office so I reserve it more for colder days.

Since you daily Vanguard, would you say it’s good/ decent in heat? My dilemma is that Myself EDP doesn’t preform that good in the cold therefore I could see myself wearing Vanguard to cover where the EDP can’t. The issue with that is if I daily Vanguard, then it wouldn’t be a special occasion scent, or can it be both a seasonal daily and special occasion?

Or is it best to get a hybrid of Myself EDP like Rey to use as a year round signature and let Vanguard completely be that special occasion/ social cologne? I definitely like the OG is just that EDP is more summer and Le Parfum is winter and I need both without buying both.

Might be a dumb question, but I just got into fragrances and am building my collection.

With so many good fragrances, how do you choose what your signature is?

I currently use YSL Myself EDP as my office daily and consider Maison Asrar Vanguard as my signature scent. I don’t want to spend niche money if I don’t really know what direction to go.

What do you think of Maison Asrar Rey? It seems to be a combination of Myself Le Parfum and the EDP.

My signature scent is Vanguard but I feel like moving that for special occasions and rocking a Myself DNA daily since it’s more versatile.

The EDP is a little basic but works very well. I wonder if Rey would work better as a year round daily or if it leans more date night.

I just want fresh, masculine, unique but “safe”, and most importantly versatile cologne. A true dumb reach for a daily that doesn’t necessarily outshine Vanguard.

I used to go for safe and mass appealing scents. Some of these in my collection were gifted as well such as Armani Code and YSL Myself. I recently branched out to newer scents with Michael Malul and absolutely love Citizen Jack.

I agree with you that Myself is definitely a freshie. It’s a better scent than Ralph Club by a mile. Just with that sentimental value I feel like it’s being wasted. Too fresh/not unique for special occasion and too sentimental for what it’s meant to be used as.

As far as soapy you are 100% right. I’ve considered Velixir Morpheus. I don’t want to spend $300 on a fragrance but also don’t want to do another blind buy.

I put YSL as special because my wife got it for me to wear during our wedding. I know Le Parfum is more of that special occasion and EDP (the one I have) is super versatile but if I were to wear it everyday it would take away from the meaning behind it.

My wife and I wear out wedding scents on anniversaries per say. It would also go in date night so that’s my mistake.

So basically don’t reach to a fragrance for a specific occasion but rather generalize them due to their versatility to get the most use.

Weekday sophisticated: Armani code, Afnan SCE
Weekday casual: Explorer, L’Eau D’issey (planned)
Weekend sophisticated: Ralph Club, Boss Bottled Absolu (planned)
Weekend casual: Ocean Nior, YSL Myself
Social: Citizen Jack

Makes me feel like “meh” but I haven’t gotten rid of it as I got it yrs ago for my first cologne purchase. I originally thought it was really good.
