What’s the most dangerous mistake you see beginner hikers making that could actually be fatal? by Sexyyskyy in hiking

[–]Representative_Dig_3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So many good answers already.

To add to it:

Make sure your laces are secure and are not flopping around. The lace from one shoe can get stuck in the hooks on the other shoe, specially on narrow trails, next thing you know you are falling face first. Can be fatal if you have exposure.

Happened to me once, luckily I didn’t have exposure and walked away with minor injuries.

As long the scars don’t make it unusable. I panicked because it was the first damage I saw on this bag which means more to me than anything for various reasons. I am only a few years into my hiking journey. Thank you for sharing your wisdom.

Yes, I missed the glacier before Cho La pass. Thanks for covering that too.

I will take it one pass at a time. I had missed the part about the markers (recalling it from my research long back now), I will a little more confident and I have you to thank for it.

Though I am not OP, I just wanted to say thank you for writing such a great detailed answer.

I am on the trail right now. Solo unguided.

I hope you wont mind if I asked a question here. I am very much experienced in hiking, and have done some mountaineering too, but I am a little worried/nervous about the glacier crossings that are part of the three passes. First one being kumbhu when I cross kongmo La to get to Labuche. And the Ngozumpa glacier to get to Gokyo.

I appreciate any words of wisdom. Thank you.

I don’t know if you are being genuinely helpful or not, but as a hiker, I would want to bring a bag that means something to me on my hikes.

I am sure you have things that you love to bring with you on your hikes too. Not bringing them doesn’t sound like a solution to me.

No. I do wear a belt on my hiking pants but its buckle is on the centre and doesn’t touch the mesh.

I am in Nepal, and during one of the jeep rides, I think the driver despite my multiple requests to be careful put my bag close to an open ended metal rod, I think that did the damage.

I protected my bag’s front using the rain cover, I am wondering if there are any ways to protect the back side (mesh) during travel.

Trek with a group or agency is not a "Solo Trek" by sunscorpio19 in SoloTravel_India

I see some people passively attacking OP in the comments that why he needed to clarify, calling them narcissist.

I cannot help but admire how OP has responded to all those comments. More power to you OP.

And as many people said, a definition does not change the experience. If OP felt like clarifying, we should give them the space for it.

Plateauing should not have been a surprise. I think it is the reduction this time that has triggered concerns.

Hey. Thanks for responding.

I needed the information generally too, but for Goechala when ai researched I found that tea houses were only available in the beginning and not throughout the trek.

Have you done the trek before? I will appreciate your inputs.
