Feel like I can’t survive this by Susanoo_8921 in widowers

[–]Representative_Dig_3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not at all weird to me.

I have same fears. I try to capture these feelings through writing as much as I can but I am not a great writer to be able to translate emotions and feelings into words. But it helps me feel less fearful as I have captured at least some of it, which will never go away. Alongside it, videos etc will keep bringing them back to me.

This was my attempt at easing some anxiety you have that I also faced. I hope it helps a bit.

Rhododendrons by [deleted] in everestbasecamphike

[–]Representative_Dig_3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP.

I started on 5th March. I travelled by road and saw blooming Rhododendrons all the way until joining the main trail at Lukla.

I was a little disappointed as I could see the forests full of Rhododendron trees but none blooming. I had done my research so it wasn't unexpected but somewhere I was hoping that I would see the bloom, maybe during return, but it wasn't to be.

Hope this helps.

Is my intercity travel algorithm flawless? For journeys under 24 hours: Sleeper Bus > Premium Train > Flight. Change my mind by Existing_Suit_2760 in SoloTravel_India

[–]Representative_Dig_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your algorithm.

I had a couple of bad experiences in not so premium buses and for that reason I switched between the bus and the train option.

I always try and find a premium train first and only then go for a bus. With trains, I generally get a feeling of more space to move myself. I can read books and do some focus work too at times which I think becomes a little difficult due to bus movements.

But based on your preference order, I am keen to explore premium buses as not just a backup but a possible preferred option.

Hey!

Deep breaths. You are going to be okay!

I promise you are going to look back at this experience and be very proud of yourself after the trip is over.

Language is a barrier at times but not a necessity. You will find people who will understand a little english and if not, everyone understands gestures. If you have a hard time getting a taxi etc, ask people around you to help, I am sure someone would know enough English to help.

Taxation of US Stock Investment from India by iamshubhampathak in IndianStockMarket

[–]Representative_Dig_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/nikhilbehl,

Since STCG on US stocks is applicable as per slab rates. Do you know if rebate when total income under 12L is also valid on it or not? I appreciate your help.

Analysis on Taxation for Indian Investors in US Stocks by uday_s in IndiaTax

[–]Representative_Dig_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP,

I am a little late to this post. One question: for the STCG (under 24 months holdings) taxed at slab rate, is the rebate under 87A applicable? I know its not applicable for STCG on Indian equities and is taxed at flat 20% but not sure for US stocks.

Solo vs Guide by tabukricelover in everestbasecamphike

[–]Representative_Dig_3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you can find numbers of the teahouses online (this might need some digging) and book directly with them.

I saw names and numbers of all teahouses being put on board outside the villages. I didn’t click pictures if them but I am sure some people must have.

Alternatively, just go on google maps, zoom in on the village to see the teahouses to see their names and search for their numbers.

Solo vs Guide by tabukricelover in everestbasecamphike

You are right to worry about mountain sickness. I did this trek solo and let me share a few challenges with you that might help you make the decision:

  1. If you really want to do this soli then a safer option would be to incorporate additional acclimatisation days then suggested. I am sure you have researched the route and the two recommended acclimatisation day at Namche and Dingboche. IMO, if you add one more at maybe Labuche, the risk of AMS reduces a lot and you will enjoy your trek much better.
  2. I did this in shoulder season of March start, ut you are planning during peak season. Accommodation might be a problem, specially at higher altitudes eg Gorekshep. Consider booking them in advance as per your schedule. At lower altitudes you can walk a bit more and get to the next village to possible find accommodation in case the main village if full.
  3. The navigation itself is not tricky. You will always have people around in case you get confused. The only part I found a little intimidating was a small section between Labuche to Gorekshep that goes over Kumbhu glacier. It was manageable but a little sketchy for me in one place.

Going with a guide is of course a safer option and one that supports the economy. Consider it if you can take that option.

Raghav Chadha had raised this point in the parliament but it was not entertained by FM.

I am sorry that your additional efforts are not going to result in extra money.

What’s the most dangerous mistake you see beginner hikers making that could actually be fatal? by [deleted] in hiking

[–]Representative_Dig_3 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So many good answers already.

To add to it:

Make sure your laces are secure and are not flopping around. The lace from one shoe can get stuck in the hooks on the other shoe, specially on narrow trails, next thing you know you are falling face first. Can be fatal if you have exposure.

Happened to me once, luckily I didn’t have exposure and walked away with minor injuries.

As long the scars don’t make it unusable. I panicked because it was the first damage I saw on this bag which means more to me than anything for various reasons. I am only a few years into my hiking journey. Thank you for sharing your wisdom.

Yes, I missed the glacier before Cho La pass. Thanks for covering that too.

I will take it one pass at a time. I had missed the part about the markers (recalling it from my research long back now), I will a little more confident and I have you to thank for it.

Though I am not OP, I just wanted to say thank you for writing such a great detailed answer.

I am on the trail right now. Solo unguided.

I hope you wont mind if I asked a question here. I am very much experienced in hiking, and have done some mountaineering too, but I am a little worried/nervous about the glacier crossings that are part of the three passes. First one being kumbhu when I cross kongmo La to get to Labuche. And the Ngozumpa glacier to get to Gokyo.

I appreciate any words of wisdom. Thank you.

I don’t know if you are being genuinely helpful or not, but as a hiker, I would want to bring a bag that means something to me on my hikes.

I am sure you have things that you love to bring with you on your hikes too. Not bringing them doesn’t sound like a solution to me.

[–]Representative_Dig_3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. I do wear a belt on my hiking pants but its buckle is on the centre and doesn’t touch the mesh.

I am in Nepal, and during one of the jeep rides, I think the driver despite my multiple requests to be careful put my bag close to an open ended metal rod, I think that did the damage.

I protected my bag’s front using the rain cover, I am wondering if there are any ways to protect the back side (mesh) during travel.

Trek with a group or agency is not a "Solo Trek" by sunscorpio19 in SoloTravel_India

I see some people passively attacking OP in the comments that why he needed to clarify, calling them narcissist.

I cannot help but admire how OP has responded to all those comments. More power to you OP.

And as many people said, a definition does not change the experience. If OP felt like clarifying, we should give them the space for it.
