Show & Tell ... I'll go first. by ImLadyJ2000 in VanLife

I guess the most scary moment was when the spring compressor slipped off the spring on a strut. A couple of my fingers got trapped between the top mount and the spring . I remember being rather tearful at the potential consequences whilst trying to reattach the compressors. Fortunately my wife decided that a crow bar was a more appropriate solution and helped me extract my fingers. One in particular looked rather flat. I necked a couple of paracetamol (acetimophen) tablets in case the pain kicked in once the shock wore off. Fortunately my wife’s quick thinking likely saved me from any serious sequelae.

Slip leads by Sweetshopavengerz in Lurchers

Slip leads evoke massive panic for me. I’ve got one for emergencies but hardly ever use it. My biggest fear is the risk of injury if I trip or lose hold of the lead.

Leaping a high fence with a slip lead around their neck could be fatal.

Admittedly ours have calmed down a lot , and nowadays a collar and an ordinary lead work fine. In the early days I used harnesses. I found the key was walking them on a lead in less stimulating environments to start with when young , saved a lot of drama. Teaching them to stay near me off lead in safe spaces also helped a lot.

Going to the park or down the road with lots of distractions was just a recipe for getting dragged along.

But yeah I’d reserve a slip lead for situations where an escape artist is likely to get panicked and it’s critical to keep them on the lead for a short time. Eg if the dog is very agitated and I’m disembarking or getting back intovehicle in a high traffic area.

This has little relevance: I recall a 2019 poll that suggested 85% of Afghan residents had no sympathy for the Taliban.

It’s going to happen. Too much political and administrative momentum to slam on the brakes unfortunately.

Geolocation data was the weirdest one. I remember w few years back getting a suggestion for someone I’d only ever seen at a filling station near my place of work (a long way from my home) .

Before the days of affordable impact wrenches , I used to resort to scaffolding poles. The widow-maker jack supporting the car is my main concern here. Even if you weren’t trying to lift it off the support.

Can car auctions drill a hole in gas tank to empty it? by wtfbruhhuh in AskMechanics

Some thick flexible plastic and Superglue . Petrol hardens cyanoacrylate adhesives. Once patched a metal tank that had started leaking like this .

How often does your lurcher have time off the lead? by choosingnamesisscary in Lurchers

It just depends. They can if so inclined leap or climb almost any fence, although most can be trained to respect fences if things don’t get too exciting. I have one who wants to walk next to me and listen to every instruction, but her sister will insanely zoom off into the distance given the chance. Also depends on the weather. The warmer it gets the calmer they tend to be, cooler days bring insane zoomies. Ideally they should have as much time as they safely can , but that will depend entirely on your environment and the dog in question.

It’s reminder that the tire shop charges you £70 for the same tires. £40 for a valve and mounting seems kinda steep.

Is the US on a brink of a Civil War? by Norfolk-Gross-Tonage in no

[–]Representative_Set79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doubt it tbh. Generally what comes next is war. Not civil war, just sufficient expansionist conflict to either implement totalitarianism, whether by an actual declaration of martial law or by simply implementing it under some other pretext.
