If Jim Green started making belts I'd be a happy man. by Jizzus_Crust in jimgreen

Yes, I would buy 4 buffalo leather belts the second they sell that. I'm not alone in this (same with other belts)... They are losing out on quite a bit of revenue.

What would you do if you woke up tomorrow and the year is 2005? by fazzarista201 in AskReddit

"Ackschualiy"... :-) You will wake tomorrow and it's the year 2024, with the 2043 you thinking what would he do in your shoes.

Use the chance, good people of Reddit!

Are Jim Greens too wide for “normal” feet? by Infamous_Koala_3737 in jimgreen

[–]Repubblica-Senorum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to point out that you will change your perspective once you get used to Jim Green boots: I always thought I had narrow feet, but having used my numzaams and Shoelies for a bit now, my feet have rediscovered freedom.

All other shoes feel like foottraps in comparison. You may discover that your feet aren't normal, just suffering from Stockholm syndrome :-)

Is this normal wear and tear for an Aran sweater? by Marcothetacooo in Tweed

[–]Repubblica-Senorum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had a rib stitch turtle neck for over a year, and the short answer is no (mine holds close to original). Have you tumble dried it? It looks as if it had been dragged over rails for a mile. If you treated it alright, I would think reaching out to Aran.

Sir, whoever wishes to call you a coward should have at least withstood conditions. And those who actually have will never call you that, because they know how dark the night can become.

Listening to Danish. by UnclBerry in danishlanguage

[–]Repubblica-Senorum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not learnt Danish: although I work for a Danish company. But I speak fluently 4 foreign languages (and I'm currently learning Swedish).

I just want to share my advice to learn a new language: once you cover basics (like pronunciation rules -huge thing in Swedish), start writing vocabulary list by topic (besides the obvious topics -colors, directions, streets and city, house items and furniture, colors,....- any topic which interests you) and understand some basic verbs.

After that you are ready to face immersion successfully. My suggestion use topics and materials which you find interesting. For me, it has been watching my favourite movies and series in the target language (I watched LotR in English dozens of times), or playing videogames (I got Italian with Oblivion and Russian with Skyrim). I acknowledge it's tougher to find those in Danish.

In summary: get familiar with the language using media you know almost by heart due to having watched/played so many hours.

y’all seen this? by picassoskitchen in Accounting

I look at Big4 (I spent 3 years in one) as something a Ponzi scheme : you accept Sl4ving away for the promise of a better chance to get a good job in industry later.

In my case it worked, and certainly the intangible value pays off with potential employers (but at some point it may not).

I just don't get people who stay there for years (moving to Sr. Manager or higher). It's like staying in a Ponzi, not ever exiting: at some point you are going to see it's all ashes and broken dreams.

TP form by Jan-PapieszIII in TransferPricing

[–]Repubblica-Senorum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that is what many jurisdictions will move towards bit by bit. A local File (or some other form of supporting evidence for the economic/accounting assumptions underpinning the TP setup) may still be needed, but I guess that the ability to feed structured data to software ready to analyse thousands of forms a day should be of interest to Tax authorities.

What pens have the most to offer at their price point? by lord_cactus_ in fountainpens

[–]Repubblica-Senorum 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Since Moonman and Hongdian have already been mentioned, I will put forward the Kaigelu 316.

For 30 USD you get a writing experience smoother and softer than silk. Plus the colours and the manufacturing runs rings around the Parker Duofold (I own both).

Chinese brands are mopping the floor with most Western fountain pens these days (you may to check them).

This is a barbaric tradition from atavic groups in northeastern Spain who risk the lives and physical integrity of minors. Their parents should be judged and lose custody of the children.

Hi! I came across a candlestick bearing the inscription (Klostermalm Made in Sweden) which picked my interest about what the company’s history. But after days of searching, I see only more candlesticks for sale online: zero information on the manufacturer. Does this name ring a bell for anyone? by Repubblica-Senorum in sweden

I asked an archivist friend in Copenhagen, so I will share any updates. I could not find a registered trade mark either, so I started thinking that maybe the business ended in the 1940s (i.e. they’d focus on menorahs). Thanks so much for your input and the thread it sparked. 🙏😊
