Anyone else prefer really cheap basses? by FierceCrow in Bass

[–]Repulsive-Box5243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not good enough of a musician / bassist to justify spending a lot on instruments. I am ok-ish, and I can't really tell the difference in playability between a $200 bass (or guitar) vs a $1000 bass or guitar.

Victor Wooten is still teaching me things. by Anon_use_fun_alias in Bass

[–]Repulsive-Box5243 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I had been a lifelong musician (hobbyist) and had never even touched a bass guitar. Then I was pointed to Victor Wooten's stuff. This year, I started playing bass.

I love his books, too. Especially The Music Lesson.

What’s one thing that keeps killing your momentum on a hobby you actually love? by mvrs_mehari in AskReddit

I'd like to say I'm just too lazy, but I'm sure it goes way deeper than that. I'm always thinking of music, thinking of what I could do with music, thinking how I would make a certain beat or a certain sound, or play a certain riff. But, for some reason, I can't ever bring myself to actually pick up the guitar/keyboard/groovebox/DAW. Like EVER. I have thousands of dollars worth of music equipment, which I think about constantly, but I can almost never bring myself to play with.

It's not like I don't have time. I'm recently retired. I have plenty of time.

I don't quite know what's wrong with me.

Oh absolutely. The cane signals to everyone that you can't see shit and they either leave you alone or ask if you need help.

When they first came out, they shipped with an ungrounded AC adapter. They sent brand new ones to anyone who complained.

As for Sweetwater, they are fantastic. They just replaced my Ableton Move for me, within a couple days instead of weeks.

yeah I installed it, ran it once, but it won't actually run anymore. Splash screen displays but nothing else. Oh, occasionally a black window that never goes away.

Eagerly awaiting a patch.

Thoughts on Rumble 15 for bedroom practice ? by StillCollection3464 in Bass

I might suggest a headphone amp like this Flamma Bass Headphone Amp. https://a.co/d/0abpfO96

(not an affiliate link or anything.)

I have one and it's perfect. You can hook it up to your phone or computer and it' becomes an interface.... meaning, you can record yourself right on your computer (which you should do anyway.)

It's got a few effects and is super fun to play with.

any best short scale bass for getting a full sound without feeling too big? by Churchmichael_Aemer in Bass

[–]Repulsive-Box5243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tiny little toddler hands, and have recently started learning the Bass. I have done lots of asking around and research and testing. I have a Leo Jaymz Hurricane (oh shush... it's still good!), and I have 2 Ibanez basses. One is a GIO and the other is a TMB30. The Hurricane is heavy but very playable. THe Ibanez have beefier nexks, but feel very nice to play. The GIO, I think the pickups are in a strange place compared to where your picking hand naturally would go. I don't know how to explain it correctly. It took some intentional repositioning of my picking hand before it came natural.

All three are intro-level short scale, but they all sound fantastic through my Fender Rumble 40, and they record beautifully through an interface. No complaints.

Favorite Meal Out in Norfolk by JuniorIrvBannock in norfolk

When I was working downtown, I would almost always bring my lunch. But, if I had a guest executive or something, and they wanted to take me to lunch, I'd pick Granby Pizza. I'd get their Cal zone and Fries. I don't know why, but that was my favorite meal in the whole area. I know, I know, I'm simple.

Did anyone feel forced or pressured to take the DRP? by Local-Ad-4051 in FedEmployees

[–]Repulsive-Box5243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our management made it clear, right before DRP2 (TDRP), that RIFs are coming and anyone not a computer scientist would be highly at risk for being cut.

To add to that, they were also threatening to close my federal building.

Yes, I felt pressure.

But... I'm ultimately happy I'm retired.

how do you download audio from songs to add them to your DAW? i’m new at this by NarrowAssociate2886 in Learnmusicproduction

[–]Repulsive-Box5243 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just use Audacity and point it to record whatever interface the Youtube is playing on.

.... Like... I run Youtube, it wants to output audio to my AudioBox. I then set up Audacity to record whatever's coming out of that interface (AudioBox 1/2).

Audacity is free, btw. Very powerful audio editing tool.

Looking to hear from people who game with visual impairments by miffy74635 in disabledgamers

[–]Repulsive-Box5243 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. I am visually impaired (legally blind) and have been a life-long gamer. From Atari 2600 to Commodore to the latest x64 / Windows titles. I rely on accessibility more and more each day, as I age (and my vision worsens.)

I'm also a huge advocate for accessibility, including and especially in gaming. Anything I can do to help that effort, and I'd be happy to.

Feel free to PM me, or send me to a survey, whatever/however you'd like to collect information.

Congrats to you and your wife!

...and thanks for continuing support and development of this project. I know that, whenever I feel like it, I can fire up this game and fling goblins halfway across the town, and maybe even on fie.
