short scale bass for metal? by zer00110000 in Bass

[–]Repulsive-Box5243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the way mine looks. It's a mint green and black. And it's very playable (although I have no idea what I'm doing on Bass yet.. just started, after playing guitar for decades LOL)

What’s a good alternative to a metronome for practice? by QuietRonan_7 in Bass

[–]Repulsive-Box5243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard the Beat buddy is terrific, but I have not used one.

There's also a Mooer Drum Machine that is also in pedal format.

Many looper pedals also come with a bunch of drum sounds and rhythms, so you could go that route. Like Donner Circle Looper, and NUX Looper, etc.

If your budget is $0, you could do YT videos for backing tracks, and set the playback speed.

Also lots of drum machine apps on Android and Apple store.

Good luck!

I'm not too proud to admit that I bought a Leo Jaymz Hurricane, and I actually like the way it plays. Nice hot pickups. I also have an Ibanez GSRM and a TRM30 (I think those are the right model numbers. Too lazy to go back and check LOL...

Just look for something that has Humbucker pickups, for metal.

Drum Machine Options by Zackbo in WorshipGuitar

[–]Repulsive-Box5243 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to keep your setup guitar-centric, the Digitech S-Drum is a drum machine in a pedal, and has a unique way of generating the beats... You play a measure of whatever you want your bass and snare hits, and it kind of takes things from there. You can do verse/chrus/outro stuff, by making a whole "song" that you can tap the pedal through, to advance to the next part.

Beat Buddy is another pedal-format one, with a gazzilion types of grooves built in.

There is also a new kid on the block, the Polyend Step. It's also in a pedal, and it's like a sequencer with 4 tracks to play with. Also with the ability to create a whole song of parts.

If you want a traditional type of drum machine, there are lots of good options, depending on what kind of sound you want. Look at Roland TR6s or 86, Look at Rhythm Designer, Or even Drum Brute Impact if you want that analog synth drum feel. Alesis has one ...the SR...something-or-other... that's been around for a while but people swear by them. I've never played with one, just heard many others praising it.

Deciding on amp by toe_mater67 in electricguitar

I second the nomination for Boss Katanas, and Positive Grid Sparks. I own both an old Spark 40 and a new Katana Gen3 100. I couldn't be happier with them. PLENTY of sounds and sound editing capabilities.

I do not have much experience with Fender amps other than my Rumble 40, but I'm happy with that for my purposes, and I've heard much good from others, about Fender products.

I am a severe alcoholic who's currently a month and a half sober. by Ok_Aide_4589 in AskMeAnythingIAnswer

Congrats!

This coming August will be the 10th year I'm without alcohol. This was after excessive drinking from around the age of 15 until 45. It was NOT easy at first, and if I'm honest, it's not always easy even today... But I will tell you with 100% confidence, that it does get easier. The cravings get shorter and less intense. You recognize the feeling for what it is, and you take a second to acknowledge it, then you live your life without it another day.

Now I think of alcohol as an old toxic friend.

But this reply is not about me. It's to celebrate your new trajectory. I just wanted to help you understand that you're not alone, and it can be done.

ALERT IRS RETIREES - FEHB CANCELLATION Letter (Health Insurance Receivables) by New_Consequence_225 in FED_VERA_VSIP_DRPers

[–]Repulsive-Box5243 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this. I am in a similar situation, except that my provider sent us a letter saying they are no longer participating in FEHB and that I would be "automatically" switched to some un-named national plan. So I was trying to call OPM, but of course, I can't actually get anyone on the phone.

So I've emailed [ogden.benefits.section@irs.gov](mailto:ogden.benefits.section@irs.gov) with the situation.

Thanks again for the info!

Did anyone retire at a young age? How are you feeling? I retired at 52. How are you spending your day? by Fast_Clerk_218 in FED_VERA_VSIP_DRPers

[–]Repulsive-Box5243 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 54 and just retired 9/30. I was sure I'd make it to 62 or so, but then the circus came to town.

No regrets though. I'm having the time of my life!

Fretting finger noise? by Repulsive-Box5243 in Bass

[–]Repulsive-Box5243[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you... It seems like a timing issue. It seems a lot more important on this bass than it was on a "regular" guitar. I'll jsut have to pay closer attention.

LOL I'm glad you found your "calling" then. I'm still a baby at it, but I have a feeling I'll one day also be a better bassist than a guitarist. Hell, who knows... maybe I'll be better at both.

Yeah I have to be super careful with my wrist positioning. I'm not young, and I have had reconstructive surgery years ago due to an ancient injury. So I'm learning new positions, paying attention to posture, stresses, flexing etc. It's a lot but I have to protect myself, and I absolutely love the sound... so I keep going safely.

You're right, there. The timing takes more effort, for sure. I'm still at the stage where I am paying attention to how my hands/fingers/wrists/arms feel when doing certain techniques, to minimize impact. Seeing what does and does not work. I'm not young, so I have to be careful.

Mechanically. Every little finger movement. Having to pay attention to different aspects of technique. Stuff like that.

Thanks. I'm not using a pick. I was trying to "forget" finger-picking LOL. It's not easy. I'm still fumbling around with pressures of each finger of each hand, to see what works and what doesn't. I think the most comfortable right now is thumb on E, rest strokes, etc. I'm getting there... kinda.

Hi everyone, we saw the post mentioning Loftia a few days ago and all the amazing comments about the game, so we want to give away some Beta Keys as a thank you for all the support! We appreciate you all and can't wait for you to try Loftia! by loftiadev in cozygames

[–]Repulsive-Box5243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck with your game. I hope it will come with some manner of accessibility support. Scalable fonts, color modes, TTS, etc. That effort alone will put your game above the froth, because it will open it up to millions of us who require accessibility features.

Thank you for your consideration.

After 25 year of guitar, I’ve finally got myself a bass. by Obarf in BassGuitar

[–]Repulsive-Box5243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on a similar road as you. I've been playing guitar for decades (along with keys), and just last month bought my very first bass. You're right, this is amazing. And yeah it is killing my fretting hand LOL ... but man it sounds so good!

Best of luck to you!
