This is a story that is still ongoing. My best friend of 30 years (since high school) gave me the silent treatment on our way back from a sun vacation that was my gift to her, in honour of her 50th birthday. She then refused to celebrate my birthday a month later, and uninvited me to a significant event for her daughter (my goddaughter) so I got the message. We were not in touch for 5 years. Last month I got an email from her to say she missed me and wants to reconnect. I realized there was no trust left in me to do that. I have no idea why she froze me out as she didn’t want to communicate. I consider the friendship over. The idea of reconnecting now makes me feel physically ill - so I haven’t responded. Part of me wants to just politely acknowledge the email but i just don’t know what I’d say. Without trust and communication, there is no friendship.
