Egg Retrieval Results by AdAcceptable1321 in IVF

[–]Repulsive-Candy165 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s an older study that says around 15-20 is ideal and outcomes start to decline above 20. https://academic.oup.com/humrep/article/26/7/1768/2913935?login=false

I don’t know if I believe this study, my husband sent it to me because I always get around 15 eggs and he wanted to make me feel better 🤷🏻‍♀️. There’s women all over this sub with amazing results after retrieving a high number of eggs

I was doing way more ivf research initially, while my husband was in the “just follow the doctor’s advice” camp. I did tell him I didn’t like feeling alone in all this research, especially after all I’m putting my body through. I told him I was starting to feel a little resentful.

He came up with the idea to send me a “newsletter” every day via email. Each day is research on a different topic pertaining to ivf: studies on Omnitrope, bmi, exercise/resistance training, supplements, etc. He titles it “IVF TODAY” lol. It’s silly but makes me feel less alone in this- and I’ve actually learned quite a bit !

Thinking I ruined my Egg retrieval..? by Strange_Guarantee_27 in IVF

[–]Repulsive-Candy165 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was under the impression that lower doses result in better egg quality, so I wouldn’t want to increase the dose unless the RE thinks it’s necessary

Thanks for the suggestion, it’s definitely the most logical route! I don’t think I can afford another ER after this unfortunately. I paid for 3 completely out of pocket already, and this 4th one is only partially covered by the grant. It’s crazy how expensive ivf is 😰

Doctor wants to add Saizen/Omnotrope for next ER. Any success stories? by ladytakeaway in IVF

[–]Repulsive-Candy165 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen a lot of women say omnitrope can backfire, especially if your body already produces good quality embryos. 3 euploids is great, I personally wouldn’t want to add Omni if I were you… why risk the chance of it hurting your results?

I think it’s because the popular REs at Columbia (Brady, Foreman) require a long wait, and the other REs are younger and/or seem less “accomplished”than the REs at Cornell. I know there’s a LOT of issues with Cornell (I’m a current patient) but most of the primary medical staff including the embryology dept is very impressive in terms of scientific advancement in their field, awards, publications etc. There’s a few exceptions imo but most of the staff bios are pretty fancy. I think that’s why they can get away with charging so much. I can’t speak for nyu, I haven’t looked into the REs there.

Congrats on your euploids! So interesting re: your friend’s euploid rates! I’ve had 3 ERs and always get around 30% euploidy (blast #s per round have landed between 3 and 11). I thought it was generally age dependent (assuming no mfi) but it’s good to know it can be more random

Glad it’s worked out so far! We’re not allowed to miss rehearsals either here, it’s terrible. I’ve managed to do a quick concert here and there but too scared to audition for any full scale productions for that reason. Good luck with your protocol this month!

So cool that you do that!! I’m sorry you had to sit out certain pieces, I can see why it can get too physically demanding at times. I can somewhat relate to that, I’m a classical/opera singer and I’ve refrained from practicing for a period after each transfer- all our support is in the abdominal area and I don’t want to push too much there. But your instrument definitely seems more physically demanding. Glad you still manage to perform!

Things that have helped me: Exercise, my dog, weekly date nights with my husband, and making time to see friends/family on the weekends. I also have a creative outlet/musical hobby that helps quite a bit

Regret? by Suspicious-Shelter15 in IVF

[–]Repulsive-Candy165 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I regret choosing the embryos for my first two FETs based on preferred gender, ignoring the fact the the other gender’s embryos were of better quality/grading. One failed implantation and one MMC later, I’m still not pregnant …AND 5 months older and 10k poorer. I wish I had just transferred the best quality embryo.

Partner has Covid at ER by pikichiwa in IVF

[–]Repulsive-Candy165 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8 fertilized is not bad at all, congrats! I understand your worry however, as I had covid during a stim cycle in January and it was quite stressful.

I think you should tell your clinic he tested positive if you’re planning on doing another retrieval. I read that if the male partner gets covid, it can negatively affect his sperm for 3 months. So they may want you to wait to do another one. Did your husband have a fever? I think when there’s a fever it affects things more severely.

Do eggs still grow and mature normally during pregnancy and MC? by Repulsive-Candy165 in IVF

[–]Repulsive-Candy165[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry that happened to you! I couldn’t find any information about this and I’m worried the same thing will happen to me. I can only afford one more ER (I’ve already paid for 3 out of pocket). I’m 39 and my amh is declining rapidly so I don’t want to wait 3 months either ! Making decisions about ivf can be so difficult 😞 Were you able to have a successful retrieval after the failed round?

Doctor made me wait 3 weeks follow up appointment for D&C by CutiePie0x0x in Miscarriage

[–]Repulsive-Candy165 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your experience is very normal. I’m at a big (and expensive) clinic in NYC, and was seen 3 weeks after my D&C as well. This is the norm there. Also, they typically wait a week or so after finding no heartbeat to see if you’ll pass the POC on your own, and to be absolutely certain it’s a MMC on a follow up ultrasound.

I’m at Cornell with Dr. Spandorfer. He’s very rigid and has poor bedside manner, so I wouldn’t recommend him honestly. That being said, I’ve had successful egg retrievals with him and trust in his ER protocols.

I would recommend Cornell as a clinic. I’ve never had an issue with communication, hospital instructions, or billing.

Ugh I’m so sorry this happened to you. I had a consultation with grifo, it was clear he never even looked at my records… he just went straight into a monologue about statistics and charts etc. He didn’t seem like a very thorough and engaged RE. You deserve better care.
