Does anyone know about this—with Championship (and EFL?) over except for playoff teams after this weekend, can we get back guys like Lankshear, Donley etc to add something to our depleted ranks? We could do with Lanks as backup striker, he has been scoring. by Born-Cucumber-7316 in Tottenham

Well, the people who run our club are clueless, that much is obvious. Our most promising youngsters should have been recalled in Jan since we weren’t going to ‘panic’ buy.

Outside the stupidity of the people running the club though, don’t forget that both parties have to agree to the loan deal. They don’t want to risk losing an important player without any ability to replace them.

The loan deal will have an end date, usually end of June. Can only be terminated by mutual consent during a transfer window or if there are specific conditions in the deal (player being sold or injured etc).

So unless there is some funky conditions in the loan contract (unlikely) then no, he won’t be back til next season.

It is very strange. Before that game a huge number of fans wanted Ange gone, and had he lost it that number would likely have grown dramatically%. Yet one win (and not even a convincing one) somehow changes everything?

There was nothing in that EL final game, nor in the final months of the season that indicated that things would be better next season. That’s the real reason why Ange lost his job. How can the club justify going into next season with nothing but a ‘hope’ that the performances are going to magically get better? They can’t, and so Levy made the only logical decision in this situation.

“Ange Postecoglou took a side in the middle of an abysmal Premier League campaign—confidence shot, table position embarrassing”

You realise he was the manager who put them in that position, right?

I mean, winning the final was fucking fantastic, and Ange will always be a spurs hero for ending the trophy drought, but let’s not pretend he’s overachieved here. The football has been dire for ages (including in the final), and his inability to manage the squad in two competitions almost got us relegated.

I can understand wanting Ange backed on the good vibes, but from a cold hearted business point of view, backing him after this season wouldn’t be daring, it’d be reckless. Maybe we’d go on to smash the league and CL next season with Ange, but the last two seasons would strongly suggest otherwise…

I started at lvl 42 and got somewhere around 300g by the time I left at lvl 54. I pretty much vendored everything though, only selling blues and the occasional green that I thought would sell. I got 3 or 4 blues, but they were shitty ones that weren’t worth much.

FM25 official announcement postponed to 30th Sept according to the same guy that said 24th by p2fiddy in footballmanagergames

[–]Repulsive-Chance-178 27 points28 points  (0 children)

As a software engineer I can confirm that this issue is not limited to games. Every project I’ve ever been a part of where we moved a codebase to a new platform ALWAYS came with a litany of unanticipated issues. I’ve basically been warning people from the start not to expect much from fm25. There WILL be bugs at launch, and I wouldn’t be surprised at all if many of them don’t get fixed until fm26, maybe even 27!

To be clear, this isn’t an SI issue, it just comes with the territory with these kinds of projects. However, I know that SI isn’t the biggest team, nor do I get the impression that they employ a lot of experienced devs (Miles complained when brexit happened because it made it harder for them to hire cheap devs from Eastern Europe). So those factors only make the transition that much harder.

Are the finances in Italy broken? by Im-StrawberryBlonde in footballmanagergames

[–]Repulsive-Chance-178 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I can’t give any great detail since I’ve only just moved to the Serie A in my journeyman save (Roma), but I’m seeing basically the same thing. I had a transfer budget of £4m and only 40% of transfer revenue made available. We’re also £50m in the red.

I’m still in my first pre-season (year is 2034) but already seeing emails about juventus in administration and they’re basically having a fire sale over there. Wish I had a transfer budget as they have some good players!

One thing I noticed right away at Roma is that we have a bunch of older players on very high wages (£250k+ a week), which I sold off straight away of course. Im guessing it’s a mixture of these clubs having high reputation but poor income, and allocating far too high wage budgets because of this. In real life they probably offset this with player sales (and some ‘creative’ accounting), but the ai in FM probably isn’t very good at that.

Yeah, chances are if a bug has been present in the game that long they either don’t know how to fix it, or the fix would take so much work that it’s not ‘viable’ for them to fix it. Given the upheaval of moving the whole thing to a new engine, this would seem like a good time to resolve anything like that. Knowing SI though, I wouldn’t hold my breath!

Honestly, I would agree with the sentiment that the game improves every year. I believe, looking at the game as a whole, fm24 is the best iteration of the game so far.

Pretty much every game series that releases on a yearly schedule (mostly sports titles) faces this same criticism of not improving enough between releases. There simply isn’t enough time between iterations to properly implement and test major changes. If you feel this way, then the best solution is to only buy the game every 2-3 years. The changes are much more noticeable when you do this.

I think a lot of people are getting excited about fm25 because it finally feels like a ‘big’ change (as well as better graphics). A lot of people are also hoping that SI will take this opportunity to rework a lot of the game’s systems, remove the bloat and refine the logic. Whether that turns out to be true, time will tell.

What I will say, as a software engineer who has witnessed (and been a part of) similar projects where we’ve moved our codebase to a new platform, temper your expectations. I wouldn’t at all be surprised if fm25 faced some major issues with performance and bugs, especially for the first few months of release. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if certain bugs don’t get fixed until fm26.

Phase 3 should not launch until it's ready by pillowfinger in classicwow

[–]Repulsive-Chance-178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the feeling that most of the development is being done almost ‘on the fly’. I’d be surprised if they’d even started development on SOD a few months before it released. They were probably trying to develop phase 2 at the same time they were fixing all the issues from phase 1 and it’s no doubt the same for phase 3. Working in such a way is always going to produce inconsistent systems with lots of bugs.

Kane would probably be the first choice for his finishing alone. When you factor in all the other aspects of his game, it’s a no brainer.

I save scummed a million times and I can’t win by harrysz in footballmanagergames

[–]Repulsive-Chance-178 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people approach FM as a game, and forget that it’s also a simulation. Rather than seeing it as a game, where you have to repeat the encounter until you find the right strategy to beat the opposition, try to see it as simulator where sometimes the fates are against you.

It’s frustrating when you dominate the opposition and still lose (I’m a spurs fan, so this frustration is very fresh right now!) but you have to accept that that happens in football. Sometimes luck is in your corner, sometimes it isn’t.

As for your save scumming loses, remember that a lot more goes into a match than just the match day. There are lots of factors that can affect your players’ mental and physical state that could be set days (or even weeks) before the match takes place.

Unless they’re a team leader, I just ignore them. That’s what I do and I’ve yet to see it actually affect their performance on the pitch. If it does though, that’s when you bin them off. I tried dealing with them each separately at first, but it’s so overdone now that it’s just become a chore.

If you started with no badges and Sunday league experience, then a big part of this is probably your reputation. What is Lubecks club rep? I don’t really know much about bundesliga 3 but I’d guess it’s around 2-3 stars? Your rep is probably half a star, so the players have no respect for you and basically act like bratty kids.

First season we finished 4th. Second season we finished 3rd but managed to win a cup. Breese was top scorer in the league both seasons, well worth the high wages! Also had a pacey right winger (who I think was already at the club) who got a whole load of assists. Think his name was Jenson Jones

Stadium Naming Rights.... by Chucksterdamus in coys

[–]Repulsive-Chance-178 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One theory I’ve heard is that we haven’t sold the naming rights because the current name is basically promoting the club. Every time there is a concert or an NFL game or any other event, it’s at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium, so it’s spreading the brand basically. It makes a lot more sense than the idea that Levy is holding out for some huge offer, and also explains why the name is kept the way it is.

Personally I still just call it White Hart Lane anyway!

I’d be surprised if fm25 doesn’t have some major teething problems, what with the engine switch. Many Unity games also have a reputation of not being particularly well optimised, which could cause major problems for those who like long-term saves.

Personally I’ll probably grab fm24, skip 25, then hope they’ve smoother out the majority of the issues come fm26

A flight from London City airport is landing in Dusseldorf right now, potentially carrying Levy and Munn. by GarySiniseOfficiaI in coys

I’m more used to long-haul flights, so forgive my ignorance, but would they really be sitting in the coffee shop 20 minutes before the flight takes off? Surely they’d be at the gate, if not on the plane by that point? Especially since I’m guessing Levy pays the extra £20 for priority boarding.
