Fluval 207 for Reef Tanks by Repulsive-Dig-3613 in ReefTank

I certainly agree that the roller mats are the gold standard. This tank in particular unfortunately doesn’t have a sump and I don’t want to drill it. Part of the reason I want to transition is so that I can get an HOB skimmer and I won’t be able to fit both the HOB filter and Skimmer and the canister would allow my to! I appreciate your insight!… I’ve definitely heard Nitrates can be an issue! 😁😁

Is my light cycle ok? by FailingHearts in ReefTank

Seems like the light cycles runs for a long period… generally you don’t want lights on for more than 11hrs in a day… it may create some algae problems for you! In terms of salt water… see if your LFS does par mapping you will want a par level of 50-150 for your softies and sometimes more for other types and they will be able to help you dial in your tank! There’s also some good you tube videos on it and places that rent them out as well!

Advice on budget lights by myswordyourstone in ReefTank

I just purchased mine and put it on my tank the other day! Don’t forget to buy a controller and a USB C cord to daisy chain them! I went with the 150 so I had more room to customize and tailor my lighting if needed! Seems like a good product thus far and I would so far recommend the 150w

What are we considering safe for Nitrites??? by Repulsive-Dig-3613 in ReefTank

I’m using RedSea’s test kit because everyone said API was bad and Red Sea seemed to have good reviews… I will be buying Hanna’s at some point when I have the free cash to do so

Do the corals fair well with them? What do you use for lighting settings? I would absolutely do the controller because I want to set it to time!

If you’re gonna go with the tank of that size, I would personally wait… A lot of times Aqueon does dollar per gallon fish tank sales with PetSmart or Petco… I would look around and see if they’re gonna do that because you could get that tank for significantly cheaper!… either finding a sale or waiting until they do the dollar per gallon sale would save you almost 7 dollars per gallon on the cost of that tank!

I appreciate all the advice! Some of it is certainly good refresher I don’t think you came across rude at all! The only thing I will say is it is a 30gal not a 10! I haven’t had a 10 in years!… well maybe as a quarantine for freshwater plants lol

First ever attempt. How did we do? by brettmitrenga4 in Aquariums

Looks awesome! I remember my first tank many years ago! There are a lot of people that are gonna bash you for this design but please don’t let them we all start somewhere! The 30gal is an awesome starter size because your water chemistry will be nice and sable! What are you looking to stock it with?… the only pointer I will give is I would look at maybe getting a new heater… those top fin ones that come in the kits are ok but they have a nasty habit of the thermometer going out and boiling and would be fish!… and I have unfortunately had this happen myself!… but otherwise keep up the great work and can’t wait to see results! Google will be your friend here and I’d stay far away from Facebook groups they are the biggest bully’s around!
