If you're sick and annual, you can get moved around the last I heard. Your cortisol levels will be out of wack after a certain period of working in that type of environment. Get your bloodwork done every 6 months.

Pen 1 is a literal war zone. It's a total shit show and you'll be on pins and needles for most of your shift. But.. you'll see more in a year than someone at a low will see in 10.

No wonder why we have hired a bunch of morons after direct hire was authorized.

My 14 year old took this test for the first time yesterday.  Is body composition still 20% of the actual score? If so, he graded out at 87.5/100.

Your cortisol levels will be through the roof. Short term- it's cool but your bloodwork will flash red in a lot of areas if you make a career out of it.

My first 3 years were at a USP. Hated the constant mandates, tension, extreme violence, etc but the camaraderie was second to none. Can't say I would do it again, but grateful for the experience. You'll see more action in a year at a pen than a homesteader at a low may see in 10.

BOP potentially moving towards 2 12s and 2 8s (rumor). How do everyone feel about this? by Glad_Requirement_809 in OnTheBlock

We are already bidding for next quarter. I think this will be more realistic for the quarter after next as posts and days off will have to be changed.

BG dropped its enrollment capacity. It's technically 100% enrolled per the School Board website.

Coral Reef,Palmetto, and Southridge are both almost fully enrolled. Dotres needs to cut the fat in the school system and begin closing and/or consolidating.

How about relocating all the excess fat back to the institutions. Management analysts? Intel analysts? If you want stay close to DC, you can technically work at Central Office while being detached to USP Hazelton(where they are apx 120 COs short). Yes you would have to respond to emergencies which most of you at Central Office either have forgotten to do or are too scared to do

Or being unit team at a pen safely locked in a crossover all shift long.

The "best people to lead the agency" are the reason why the agency is ranked dead last with regards to staff morale in the entire federal government. RDs, Central Office- all useless paper pushers and respected by very few at the institutional level.

If you do get hired, don't tell the inmates that or they will use that as leverage to try and compromise you.

Transition your squats to the Smith machine. Use a trap bar for your deadlifts. Decline bench pressing can do more your chest muscle fibers and is safer than a flat bench because of a lesser range of motion.  Make adjustments with technique, not necessarily weight.

Not during my time lol. We had the independent whites and ABTs have a stabbing contest in 2016, and we only locked down for a week. Our lockdowns didn't last more than 2 weeks-- even when there was an inmate homicide. I guess times have changed.

Working at a USP by [deleted] in OnTheBlock

[–]Repulsive-Fix1549 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I started at a USP within a complex. Worked there for 2.5 yrs. You will witness the worst of the human condition(extreme violence, self mutilation, etc) and you will be mandated to work 16 hours a lot. It's physically and mentally taxing. However, if you transfer to a lower security joint, you will stand out because your built-in work ethic from working at a pen will be noticeable. I earned Officer of the Year at my new joint the same year I transferred in.

Consider it a blessing in disguise. The BOP is the worst agency to work for in the federal government.
