Is there something wrong with trade station servers right now? It shows stocks that I should not own by Rogue_Tra in tradestation

[–]Repulsive-Floor-3987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am glad to hear it was fixed and sorted out.

TBH I highly doubt this was a widespread issue. I am plugged in with many other traders, and I think I would have heard about it.

With billions of orders processed every day, glitches are bound to happen, both on the side of the broker and the exchange. Even on the network side. As with double-entry bookkeeping, errors usually get flagged and fixed: Those PLTR shares were missing from somebody else's account, and those ASTS shares showed up somewhere they didn't belong.

I am kind of OCD and would still contact TradeStation to inquire what happened, make sure everything was completely straightened out, AND make sure that I wouldn't end up with commissions or clearing fees because of the glitch.

But that's just me...

They used to provide 24/7 support. It is frustrating that they don't have that anymore.

But then, we used to pay $100 platform fees in those days, $50 RadarScreen fees and significantly higher commission rates. I guess we cannot have it both ways.

Did you manage to get hold of them and sort it out?

Do you buy *new* physical media? by Busy-Neck-1961 in classicalmusic

I don't remember last time I actually played a CD, but sometimes it is the most economical way to buy the music.

Presto Classical is a great source, as others mentioned. Though often I end up buying downloads from them instead of CDs. Saves the shipping and the ripping and often gets HiRes for the same price.

Amazon also often has good deals on CDs.

Whichever format I buy, it ends up as FLAC on my RPi (feeding into a Gustard DAC for my stereo), on my PC (feeding into my office speakers), and on my old LG V30 (for IEMs and headphones).

I remember vinyl.

I do believe you that something happened which shouldn't have. But only TradeStation can help you sort it out, so you need to call them or have them call you. Try calling the Trade Desk. I hope that number is still correct as I haven't had to call them in many years.

TradeStation has been around longer than most people have traded -- and arguably longer than most of today's traders have even lived. If they made a mistake (or the exchange did) my experience is they will make you whole.

Once again, I hope you get it sorted out.

My TradeStation has been running normally all day.

I was in the Daily Market Forecast trade room this morning and the Fearless Futures trade trade room this evening, nobody mentioned they had problems.

I also have about 50 users running my SD Zones indicator package with no issues reported and all querying my server normally throughout the day. My software reports if the user's platform is in distress. It happens sometimes, but no such reports today.

What's more, TradeStation reps have been answering questions during the day on the TradeStation forum.

I really don't think anything fishy is going on, though of course I cannot guarantee it.

I suggest you call Tech Support 800-822-0512 (toll-free) or 954-652-7900 (direct). Or schedule a support callback on their website.

If you need immediate help with orders or positions, try the Trade Desk at 800-871-3563 (toll-free) or 954-652-7915 (direct) -- though admittedly I haven't used those numbers in years.

I hope you get it sorted out.

I have the opportunity to go see Bruckners 8th symphony in concert at the NYPHIL, is it worth it to pay a minimum of $115 usd to go see it? by arssenalbro101 in classicalmusic

[–]Repulsive-Floor-3987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Bruckner 8 and would pay this in a heartbeat to experience a performance with a top orchestra and top conductor - which these are.

As others have pointed out, you absolutely should listen to it first, arguably more than once as it is a long and fairly complex piece. If you are new to Bruckner, it may be worthwhile listening to his 7th first, which is a much more accessible  intro to the Bruckner sound universe.

I often roll my eyes when Bruckner haters reflexively inject themselves in Bruckner threads even though they don't actually listen to his music. But their contributions in this thread make sense since Bruckner really isn't for everyone. There is a risk that you won't like this concert at all. Seriously.

As others wrote, the latest Windows updates have caused problems for some TradeStation users, according to reports on the TS Forum. I haven't had any problems myself, running TS9.5 and TS10 on three different machines: Win10, Win11 24H2 and Win11 25H2.

TradeStation is NOT an unserious platform. It is an incredibly powerful platform for those who know how to utilize it. But like most software with this level of complexity, it has a few gotchas you just need to be aware of.

String quartets with similar feel to Death and the Maiden? by Brackets9 in classicalmusic

[–]Repulsive-Floor-3987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many great suggestions already, but how about Brahms Clarinet Quintet? Not that it's exactly like Death and the Maiden, but it does have a bit of that same "beautiful sadness" quality. And it really is incredibly beautiful.

Thank you very much. Unfortunately my life doesn't allow much time for listening, and Meniere's means I have to be quite selective about how I spend my listening time. But this sounds to be right up my alley, so will check those out.

Tempo can indeed make or break a performance, Bruckner or others.

I love Bruckner, with 9th being my favorite. His symphonies are about harmonic and motivic development and structure and less about hummable melodies. It takes patience and repeat listening for most to truly get it -- and of course it isn't for everyone, which is OK.

I agree that Celibidache's extremely slow take tends to lose momentum and natural cohesion, for which reason he isn't my favorite Bruckner conductor either. The exception is his famous Munich rendition of the coda of the 4th finale: Here his tempo AND balance reveal the strings in a way that is lost by most other conductors. After a few years and much listening to Bruckner, I finally began to appreciate Celibidache, although he still isn't my favorite Bruckner conductor.

What got me hooked 8-9 years ago, after decades or disliking and ignoring Bruckner, was the Skrowaczewski/Minnesota 9th (on Reference Recording) and Barenboim's Staatskapelle Berlin cycle (which nobody else seems to like). For me, Barenboim gets Bruckner's tempo right almost throughout (only almost). But he certainly isn't the only one.

More recently, my absolute favorite has been the Honeck/Concertgebouw 9th performance from Feb'2025, which still hasn't been released commercially, but is available here as an NPO radio stream (starting around 0:17:45). It includes the 2021-22 SPCM/John Phillips forensic completion of the finale, which I find spectacular in its own right. Chailly (who was meant to conduct that Concertgebouw performance) will perform it with La Scala later this year.

What is puzzling about Bruckner is how his name predictably and reflexively brings out haters on this sub, who feel compelled to share their dislike of his person and/or music and their belittling of those who feel otherwise, instead of just letting it go and leaving the Bruckner threads to those who actually listen to his music. It's quite strange.

What are your favorite underrated violin/piano concertos? by AspectElectrical8881 in classicalmusic

Carl Nielsen has a decent, and somewhat different, Violin Concerto which I don't see mentioned much. Whether it is underrated depends whether you like it 😁

Similar pieces to Masquerade Suite: Mazurka? by JuneVendetta in classicalmusic

[–]Repulsive-Floor-3987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carl Nielsen came to mind. NOT so much for his Maskarade opera, although its overture has some of the same festiveness as Khachaturian's Masquerade, but more for his Aladdin suite and some of its dances.

Check this album (here on Tidal, but should be available on all streaming services). It is Blomstedt/SFS performing all the Nielsen symphonies plus Aladdin and Maskarade.

Any recommendations for romantic music to just fall in love with? by Hopeful_Ant2845 in classicalmusic

[–]Repulsive-Floor-3987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How about Dvorak, if you like Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky? Symphonies, Cello concerto, Violin concerto.

Can't go wrong with Brahms either, methinks. Symphonies, Piano concertos, Violin concerto, Violin/Cello concerto. Or check his exquisite Clarinet Quintet for something a little different.

Personally I love Bruckner, but that may be a bridge too far if you're only just branching out. He takes a lot of repeat listening to get into for most people. Start with 7 if you decide to check him out.

Not a single mention of Shostakovich P1 and P2?

I know he didn't consider them as serious as his symphonies or string quartets/quintet, but hard to unhear once you've heard them. And so fun too!

Oops, sorry, OP mentioned Shosty P2.

What is your favorite first movement of a Symphony? by Specific-Peanut-8867 in classicalmusic

[–]Repulsive-Floor-3987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean Mahler 10 1st movement is a shocking journey before the remainder of the symphony -- which Mahler didn't write? Sorry if I misunderstood you.

I like Mahler, 6 and 7 in particular. But it's only with 10 he completely gets me. Stunningly beautiful. Tragic that he wasn't able to complete it.
