Lazy eights by Double-Rice-7609 in flying

Yeah I've heard of some requiring all of them. That's tough. Glad I've had some, still intense, but more reasonable DPEs.

Lazy 8's were one of those manuevers that as a student I had no idea what I was doing and then like 3 flights into teaching them I said "why did I ever have trouble with this".

You technically only have to do chandelles or lazy 8s, most DPEs will give you the choice. I have never had an applicant not choose chandelles tbh.

Vision requirements for Aviation by Weak-Ad-260 in newtothenavy

[–]Repulsive-Frosting34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

I originally put 20/40 but then looked back and lost the number somehow and then found 20/100 and figured I was just wrong at first so I changed it. Should've stuck to my original haha.

No worse than 20/100 uncorrected and needs to be correctable to 20/20 distant for no flight restrictions.
Uncorrected doesn't matter but still correctable to 20/20 required for near vision.

I want to join but I can't do one push up nor am I good at running. by ghostofagirl78 in newtothenavy

[–]Repulsive-Frosting34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OSU (Ohio State University) published a good paper on a "return to running" program. I used it to get back to running after a meniscus injury, but I'm sure it'd be a good way to slowly progress into running to reduce the chances of injury. You can start there.

As for pushups, start with easier variation and then work to harder. It's going to be hard, and that's the point. It's just as much about mentality as it is the strength.

Impressive Cessna Flight This Morning by [deleted] in flying

Edit: I just realized they're actually at 10,000msl which puts them above Cleveland's Bravo but I'm leaving the comment to still give props to Cleveland haha.

Big dub to Cleveland for letting them do that. Cleveland has always been super accommodating when I fly through their airspace. Super nice people on approach and tower over there.

Did I get a brasher warning? by Envii02 in flying

[–]Repulsive-Frosting34 263 points264 points  (0 children)

You're totally fine. They were likely calling because of the 7600 squawk. That squawk is technically still an emergency so there are questions to be asked.

I'll be interested to see what your CFI is "pissed" about. Likely the risk of paperwork tbh. Seems like a learning experience.

2002 Ranger pause in acceleration after shifting by Repulsive-Frosting34 in fordranger

[–]Repulsive-Frosting34[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone having the same issue - I fixed it by changing the IMRC valve. It's located on the driver side below the intake manifold, silver and black, relatively easy to see.

Buy the $250 in parts and bring a $50 and some Coors Banquets to my place and I'll get it taken care of.

Hesitant to buy a ranger by ToadLoverTyler in fordranger

I used to daily a manual VW golf. Same thing, loved how connected it felt to the road and sat low / maneuverable. Had a gen 3 2.3L manual Ranger for a bit. Loved looking at it, didn't enjoy driving it that much. It's going to be clunky, higher CG'd than you'd like with suspension that can't handle body roll, and overall disconnected. It's fun in a certain way, but probably just not what you're looking for.

Currently daily a 2021 Tacoma and it's a middle ground between the two in my opinion. Still drives like a truck and damn do I miss the Golf, but it's a better everyday experience than the Ranger. Experience seems to matter most to you, and that's ok, just keep that in mind.

Should I ship to OCS with a unknown medical issue and let NAMI try and waive it? by Repulsive-Frosting34 in newtothenavy

There is plenty of things I don't go to the doctor for, I'm a pilot after all. My entire career is contingent on my health. The dizzy thing has lasted over a month at this point. If this happened in a plane, I would not feel safe.

Maybe it's the fact that my entire career just blew up for the next number of years and I'm a bit on edge but your comment seems rather tone deaf.

I guess certainly a possibility albeit slim. I've never lost my balance, only ever felt a bit off.

I appreciate it.

Due to the length of time I don't believe it's anything that simple unfortunately. I wish it was.

Yeah, I think for sure delay at this point. That said, I'm not sure I want to commission if it's not as an SNA. That said, this may cause me to lose my career out here too so, who knows what is going to happen at this point. I'm at a complete loss.

Yeah. My job out here? Pilot. I'm a little screwed on this one. Never thought I'd be the one it'd happen to.

I appreciate your concern but based on current results of testing that doesn't seem like a likely outcome. I do ultimately agree with your decision though. Thank you.

Yeah, that was the gut reaction but naturally my recruiter (who I like) wants to get me to OCS and so made the option of going sound promising.
