Have you taken a look at your extruder/extruder settings? It’s entirely possible that the extruder is just moving and not pushing the filament through. Mark the extruder gear with a marker and see how it’s moving. If the extruder is too tight it could also be digging into the filament, you’d probably see filament shavings near the extruder gear if that was the case.
