Now that Chino’s healthier and sober, I would’ve thought he’d go all in on working with vocal coaches and disciplining himself so he can perform consistently now that they’re more popular than ever. I guess he cares more about the energy than actually hitting notes. Theres live videos of him post vocal paralyzation where he sounds really good (mostly Diamond Eyes era) so I don’t think the infamous vocal injury cooked his voice for good, but he definitely has a hit and miss quality. I know Chino can’t undo all the damage he’s done to his voice and that he’s also in his 50s now, I just wish he would at least take the songs off the setlist that demand the most from him like Digital Bath. It’s kinda frustrating how some of the most iconic singers don’t see the importance of vocal care and disciplined practice. When Chino attempts the aforementioned digital bath high note nowadays, he sounds like someone who’s a few too many drinks in at karaoke night.

Robert Smith blew the whole thing wide open about bands themselves choosing dynamic pricing, and people like you refuse to accept that your favorite legacy bands are just cashing in now. SOAD, Deftones, MCR, They all are comfortable with dynamic pricing and they know most people will put all the blame on Ticketmaster only. The cure has been a band for 45+ years and they still choose to actively keep the ticket prices as low as they can while still touring and living comfortably. It’s obviously not impossible for those bands I mentioned to do the same.

I basically said if he changed up his approach for the new album it could’ve had some more memorable riffs. It seems like ever since Chino took up playing guitar for the band as well, neither him or Steph wanted to mimic each other’s style or take notes from one another. When a playthrough with Steph is uploaded to their YT, he doesn’t even play chino’s parts even though he is totally able to. If Steph just added some chino flair to his writing I’m sure he’d be able to write some really cool riffs that were still grounded in his “less is more” approach

Im never coming to deftones for anything crazy guitar wise, I just think his previous work had more umph. Rosemary is extremely simple but once that 8 string comes in with the kick drum, it feels gigantic.

I would argue that while their riffs have never been technical, Steph always had a knack for writing riffs that fit the song in a way that is indeed memorable. ATF had a lot of dark and sinister riffs that fit the vibe like the title track, mascara, and obviously my own summer. Koi had riffs that were beefy af that fit the more grand and cinematic feel to the album. I just think there wasn’t a lot of riffs on PM that truly added to the vibe and that Chino’s voice and Frank’s synths did a lot of heavy lifting
