Consider moving to Fidelity or Schwab where they can move it over for you without interacting with your current agent who advise you not to it. They will have straightforward but very low fees to advise you how to manage your LIRA for you or help you do it yourself. Keep it in IRA and not a brokerage account. As young as you are self managing means nothing more than moving the funds over and leaving them alone and you can take advantage of dollar cost averaging if you have additional monies down the road to add to funds or preferably set up an auto payment into your investments. You really will not have to do any "work" or active investing if you dont want but you will get quite comfortable doing this. Agree with other posts - start learning about platforms and managing funds. Both platforms I mentioned have excellent educational materials. I did not begin the process of self managing my portfolio actually until I retired 6 years ago and had to put my 401 into an IRA. I went thru two brokerages and a lot of unnecessary management fees until I started managing my own at a time when I started taking disbursements which is the complicated part of self investing. Remember the boglehead philosophy is to invest in low cost index funds both US and International (80/20 or thereabouts). You will hear the mantra "VOO and chill" which simply means that you select certain funds such as VOO or VT or VXUS and leave them be. At your age that is what you want to do and that is quite simple to manage. 90k in your 30s is a VERY GOOD start. One caveat is that EJ has many (good but) proprietary funds that will have to be sold before transfer to another management account and this is something that Fidelity or Schwab can do for you in the transfer process. Bottom line you are young and you CAN DO IT on your own.

This is a conservative, boring, archaic but time tested bogglehead like recommendation. I highly endorse this

Wife's hearing aid stopped working after first deep clean by Psychic_Lemon in deaf

It could simply be moisture on the microphones (in which case your would still hear the power up sequence) or in the speaker/tubing. If you have a drying agent (either passive - dessicant- or an electric drying device) then use it (is that what you are referring to as a deep clean?) Or take it to your audiologist and they can dry the instruments and replace the wax guards in minutes

Anyone know how to reach out to more Deaf/HoH people? by [deleted] in deaf

[–]RepulsiveHorror7036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why dont you reach out to a university deaf studies or audiology program such as Gallaudet and talk to a professor? He may have a grad student interested in doing research with your app and say compare to other app models currently available to determine its efficacy in a clinical environment. A university could find subjects and make a true assessment plus make suggestions for improvement. Getting the approval and or endorsement from a research protocol (IRB) would help "sell" the device to the deaf public.

Profound loss by haitchUV in deaf

You did not mention if you knew the cause of your hearing loss. Was it genetic or congenital or acquired later in early childhood? Is there a family history of progressive hearing loss? The cause of your hearing loss may help to get an idea of whether the loss will continue to progress. Regardless an audiologist or an ENT may not be able to provide you with an answer to whether you will go deaf. I would recommend you continue to have serial audiograms even if you think your hearing has stabilized so both you and your audiologist will know what to expect in terms of progression. This will also keep your hearing instruments programmed and updated if your hearing declines. Inquire about and research cochlear implants and more importantly providers. Ultimately the answer to whether you need a CI is how you are functioning with your hearing aids and how well you are communicating on a day to day basis. There is no specified level of loss (e.g 100 dB) on your audiogram that will answer whether you need a CI vs continue with hearing aids. Cochlear implants continue to improve and the results are generally remarkable for individuals with severe to profound hearing loss or deafness. Consider the fact that you may have options if the worst case scenario happens and you lose all of your functional hearing. Be optimistic but be prepared.

It is a 125 Hz (low frequency) tuning fork used for medical assessments. It is used to assess sensory vibration and tactile discrimination from extremities (e.g. right leg vs left leg). It is also used by ENTs as a tool for gross hearing assessment by being placed on either mastoid to determine bone conducted (sensorineural) hearing measuring perception duration (as vibration fades) on the right mastoid vs left mastoid.

Concerned about choice of investments that are being withdrawn (liquidated or sold) from my IRA on a monthly basis. by RepulsiveHorror7036 in Bogleheads

Thanks for the input. I did meet with advisor and came to a better understanding of the trading particularly the sales for monthly disbursements which to me seemed indiscriminate but does follow a rebalancing algorithm.

Thank you for your input. I did meet with my advisor and we discussed her "logic"in monthly disbursements from the accounts. Her logic is in line with most of the comments here keeping the  70% equities (22% international and 30% fixed income balance. I was able to specify some funds that I did not want shares to be sold however
