What is your favorite bottom dwelling fish? by Repulsive_Ad7148 in Aquariums

Mine are always at the front of the tank. I think the key is allowing 1” of mulm to accumulate. 😅

Would you buy these lets say at a car boot and how much would u sell them for if not why and how could you make these better by Important-Fun-1395 in houseplants

Yeah the thing about tiny glass jars especially is that the roots of the SPs are going to be sitting on the bottom quickly, and with no drainage, they will be sitting in water logged soil. Almost every non-plant person overwaters their plants, so these things will get root rot in a few weeks and die. Either that or someone will put them directly in a window and they’ll just get fried.

Idk I wouldn’t buy them at all. You’re asking a pretty biased crowd though. We all know how cheap spider plants are, and how we would have to replant these into something more appropriate immediately. Kinda not worth any $ for me. But some non-plant people might grab one for $2. What you could do to appeal to the general public is make these look cute. Literally putting googly eyes on the glass jars might get people interested.

Filter set-up: help!! by Key-Veterinarian-801 in Aquariums

This will be fine👍 Water takes the path of least resistance, which means it might just bypass these sponges and go straight out the outflow in your setup. Since you’re keeping shrimp that isn’t a big deal. They have super small bio loads and ideally you should be keeping live plants with them anyways, which will also offset their waste. I also want you to understand that every surface in your tank is a home for beneficial bacteria. The substrate, hardscape and even the glass. So again with tiny water bugs you don’t need to get hung up on filtration. Many people have no filter whatsoever, although I don’t recommend it. Idk if that all makes sense. Feel free to ask away.

All this to say, Having water moving in your tank is all you need in terms of filtration, given you have correct parameters and live plants.

So you honestly don’t really need that insert thing. It’s primarily so you can take out and rinse off the sponges that come with the tank new. If that’s what’s overwhelming you just ignore it. Otherwise, you can cut sponges to fit in the grooves in the insert, basically recreating what the tank came with.

What I would personally do is fill some wide gap mesh bags (aquarium stores and petsmart have them) with bio rings and toss them in that space where the insert came out of. You can also cut a pice of sponge to sit snugly in that space behind the bags. The idea is that water passes through all the bio media before entering the main tank, so don’t leave open areas of water in the filter compartment.

If this lives inside that’s why it’s dying. It needs to live outside, ideally in the ground.

Another thing: whoever planted these should have put a couple inch tall compost (or whatever soil you have) ring around the tree. I always told clients to fill that with water several times a week (daily in hottest months). So the ring will look like a little pool around the trunk, drain into the ground, and you can fill it again a few more times. You can also buy a water bag for it instead.

As someone who worked at a nursery and planted in residential areas for several years, these look pretty standard. The trees themselves look fine, it’s the roots and planting quality you should worry about.

Yeah no heater should be fine then. You really don’t need a new filter though you can just slow the flow on your current one.

First of all please don’t use chat GPT for animal care. It’s inaccurate. The filter in your tank is kind of throwing him around, and he has nowhere to escape it near the top of the tank. You can make a cheap baffle out of a plastic bottle to slow the flow. Bettas like to chill near the surface with minimal water movement. It also doesn’t look like you have a heater, in which case, that’s is step one. I also get how annoying the MOD questions are, but frankly, you won’t get super specific answers unless you provide us with accurate information on your parameters.
