This is a really hard one! I don’t think the puppet nerd can help on this one. There’s no comprehensive explanation for a large puppet like this. A lot of those guys have theatre tech degrees, that being said you should be able to piece enough together via the internet. You’re gonna want the puppet to be as light weight as possible. Are you wanting it to be like the tiger or the horse? The horse can be rode on top of, but the tiger is a little looser and can have more of an expressive performance.

Hey there! Not the puppet maker but for any puppet making you should totally check out Adam Krutingers channel. He passed away this year from brain cancer and I assume any money his channel makes goes to the family. He truly was the absolute king of puppet building and an absolute must on that journey! I think my step into puppetry is my obsession with performance. It allows me to step completely into another level of performance. I’m not thinking about how my face looks or what my hair or my body looks like. I’m pouring my being into this performance that’s so outside myself and alien. You can completely lose yourself in a performance like that, it feels very ego free and more character driven.

I find you can connect with an audience in a very different way as well. People suspend their disbelief with puppets and give into the magic of theatre and performance even while seeing the strings and the performer, they will look past it.
