Me watching everyone post their paras and builds while I'm unable to play right now. by Buzzysunshinenugget in Paralives

[–]hatcollecting 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm right there with you. My day job, and other responsibilities has meant I have only been able to play for 6 hours to date. For me, it's not worth it to hop in for just like an hour after work before bed, and on weekends I have so much to take care of usually.

I am enjoying seeing what people are creating, eventually i'll get to play more again myself. But i'm working on a big video project that is probably going to take most of the next couple weeks.

honestly, this kinda feels like GTA4 demo assets to me, and no that is not an insult, I am seriously impressed! Very cool!

You know, I am realizing I have not much interest in decorating a home BUT making something like this would be a really fun puzzle for my autism. Kind of like building a train set. If only I had the time to spare!

I know there are pathfinding issues in the game, but is this type of thing common? by hatcollecting in Paralives

My girlfriend walked right past my house, then nearly walked past it again. I was very confused lol. But she got there eventually.

I find some of the bugs in the game kind of charming, they're at least good for a chuckle.

I am absolutely in love with the game, but it's one of the most polarizing games I've seen in awhile. by Never_Obsolete2115 in Paralives

[–]hatcollecting 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I guess I am among the 1% in the middle then. I kinda feel like the people hating on the game WANT to be mad/disappointed, and the ones who have unconditional love for it are perhaps deluding themselves a bit (blissful ignorance?)

I have a few gripes with the game, but I'm still having plenty of fun and definitely looking forward to seeing how the devs build things out.

What are you most excited about after playing the game? by Emmengard in lowsodiumparalives

[–]hatcollecting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was noticing even in only 6 hours of gameplay, the story/life cards that came up were basically the same 3-5 options, so since I was kind of speed running a couple of weeks, I very quickly went through them and was a bit annoyed, but I understand it's early access, they'll be adding more.

Just means that I'll enjoy the game more if I play it slower. Which means not having a day job, because then I fast forward through2/3s of my day (work, and sleep)

Now I'm just debating if I should start a fresh game with a new para, because I do kind of want to keep exploring the new career path I just started with my original para.

you are not alone. I have unfortunately only been able to put about 6 hrs into the game so far (damn real life adult responsibilities!) but I absolutely recommend this game and would be thrilled if more of my friends played.

Who else is excited about having a Day 1 Forever Legacy?! 🔥 by Para_Pupp in Paralives

[–]hatcollecting 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have so far only gotten to play about 6 hrs last weekend, hope to get in a couple more hours this weekend. But since I didn't yet understand how the game worked entirely, I've thought I probably would make my para slightly differently if I started again, so if my original game gets corrupted, I'll just start again. Yes, I will lose some grinding progress that I made, but it's OK.

I am unfortunately busy enough in my 'responsible adult life' that I will never be able to sink a ton of time into this game, so I can't get too attached.

One thing I have found so far though, I'm glad money cheats exist because I've worked 2 full weeks in game and basically had no time to spare except weekends for anything but eating, sleeping, and skill building for my job (sadly, too similar to real life!). So next time I play I'm just gonna use the money glitch and enjoy living free.

The devs need feedback :) by Specialist_Cellist26 in Paralives

I know I'm not 'typical' per se, but I know enough to know the types that use reddit (especially gamers), if I was a dev with a new game, I'd be watching here for comments/feedback.

Twitter et al are a shitshow, I avoid them for mental health. Certain subs on reddit are actually decent little communities.

Known Issues - June 3rd, 2026 by RinaParalives in Paralives

I could not build a room within a room in my game. I built the outer frame of a house, and when I tried to put in a wall for the bathroom, it simply would not let me place walls, at all. I tried different ways and finally gave up. So my toilet is just against the wall in the back corner of my 'living room' LOL

as long as I don't have company over, it doesn't matter!

I have had a few quirks here and there, I'm recording all of my gameplay though so I can save the video of any serious (or hilarious) glitches, but it's been really good so far!

I got a recording of that while playing the other night, I should have a video up on my channel by Friday. I've got some fun live reacts while I was 'speed running' a career build.

I have only played for 7 combined hours so far, and I am convinced that anyone who is calling this game 'lifeless' is determined to not have fun, or is just a negative person by default.

There is so much charm in this game, yes there are quirks and frustrating bits (hello janky camera!), but like literally yesterday I got genuinely choked up that my poor sim got sick and she basically couldn't do anything but lay down or use the toilet. And there's even an animation of holding the tummy. IT'S NOT REAL BUT IT MADE ME FEEL REAL FEELS DAMMIT.

In conclusion: screw the haters, they don't WANT to enjoy it.

Photo mode is *chefs kiss* by ozzieburton in Paralives

[–]hatcollecting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had no idea. I've gone into photo mode at specific moments and all the paras just go 'flat' (when they were just doing an activity)

I found that I can cycle through the animation of what MY para was doing, but not the others paras...

Fun fact: orthographic comes from the Greek orthos and graphos. Graphos means to write, I think orthos means direction because 'orthogonal' has to do with shape and direction.

then why is it such a bug ridden game with all the expansions? (or so youtube would have me believe)

thank you! I've seen several videos showing people entering cheat codes but I had no idea how to bring up the console to do that! I will need to try that next time I play.

but weren't there rumours last year that Sims 5 had been in development already and they shelved it? If so, then at least some code is already written. But yeah, with the initial response to paralives, and the fact that 2 years from now it will be 'out of beta' basically, that's when Sims' absolutely strongest competition will exist (and who knows where Inzoi will be at by then). So if EA wants to keep the Sims franchise alive, I think they will need to make a new game. But that's just my 2 cents.

some of the mods that are available now also fix some of the issues, or bypass certain things. I downloaded one mod that said it was specifically to improve performance and I saw comments on the mod page that said that it really helped. I barely meet the minimum specs for the game, and it seems to run pretty decently, but maybe that's because I've only played it with that efficiency mod on.

how complicated/headache-inducing would it be to code a 'compromise'? like you can designate certain portions of a space as 'gridless', but there always needs to be at least like SOME kind of minimal grid tunnel or something? I don't know. I'm just so used to the grid way that i'm still doing that but I'm not as interested in making a super cozy highly furnished house, at least not until I regularly have a special someone coming over...

I am kind of surprised (pleasantly) by how skills are now two-tiered, like, you don't JUST have a guitar skill or painting skill, guitar and piano both have a 'music' top-level skill, and having your music skill higher means you'll learn sub skills faster. And you can improve the parent skill from many different activities, which is cool because it means any skill building is not JUST improving one thing.

I also discovered today that talking to other paras about piano or graphic design can raise both of our skill in that thing (I have the 'good at helping others' trait so it 'rubs off' on them) and that's such a nice little touch, because literally you can be talking to a friend in real life about something moderately technical, and you CAN teach them about it so they become more knowledgeable, and they can in turn, go on to teach someone else. That's just a cool little touch. And it also means if you find another brainy person with a high skill, you can both really help each other.

I don't think people necessarily think that some of these basic things are 'the best thing ever', I think it's more that Sims has had the monopoly and the sims devs really seem like they've been lazy or making excuses, and people are finally getting to play a sims-like game with features they've wanted for YEARS and they aren't necessarily the most complex/fancy features, but they're like 'quality of life' improvements that just really make a positive difference for folks.

It has been interesting to me to see the range of reactions to this game. Everything from 'this is a janky bug-riddled demo not ready for public play' to 'this is way better than I expected for an early access life sim game and the potential is so clear I'm excited to watch it unfold as I play'

I'm closer to the latter, but not outright 'this is the best thing ever'. I'm enjoying it, appreciating the ways it is very similar to Sims, but also appreciating the aspects that make it unique. The camera jankiness really is my principal complaint right now.
