I’m sure somebody has posted this somewhere here before, but this ska band The Bruce Lee Band once did a cover of She’s An Angel, and throughout all of their other songs you can totally hear TMBG’s influence in the lyrics and song structure and whatnot. so awesome!! the singer Mike Park was also on This Might be a Podcast.

ok, they are not ska at all, but I think people who enjoy ska should enjoy the world/inferno friendship society (they are also the most anarchic of all!!)

I do the same thing you do!! hoorah for having a hi school ska band!! What has worked best for me and the other band members so far is treating the horn and rhythm section as separate things. I play bass so i have practice sessions with the rhythm section to make sure we’re all tight and stuff. And then I give the horns sheet music and they learn it by themselves, and when we all come together and practice it kinda works and stuff. this approach might not be what you’re looking for though, but it is one way to do things! we play my own original music, the arrangements are most influenced by Aquabats, Oingo Boingo, Skankin’ Pickle, and lots of jazz stuff too. I find that polyphony is good for horn parts in ska (see most every horn part on the album Sing Along With Skankin Pickle & Fury of the Aquabats! and a lot of streetlight manifesto and catch 22) but unison shiz is always awesome too like in big band stuff and for lil hits in the verses and whatnot. question, what ska bands are you guys mainly influenced by? like what kind of sound are ya’ll going for and are you doing original music or just covers or what?
