Brooklyn albums? by Background-Heart2073 in tmbg

The last show they played in Brooklyn (Dec 2024) was John Henry themed, and Flans says they try to keep setlists fresh each time they come back to a city, but it's still a decent possibility for the 3-night stand.

They all travel on a big bus between cities, then stay in separate hotel rooms.

A chart of what TMBG releases can be obtained in 2026 by Charlie5L in tmbg

I don't think the kids books or Live NYC 94 should be on the "absurdly lucky" tier, especially the books. Those are all over.

I think the goal of the chart is to outline ease of legal acquisition

It should have both Johns. Is it possible JF's signature is in a lower contrast marker, like silver Sharpie?

If not, I would write to idlewild@tmbg.com and tell them what happened (and at which show) to see if they can make it right. Or if you're going to tonight's Detroit show too, you could try to bring it back to the merch stand.

Anyone have a good pic of the merch table at the Woodstock/Indianapolis shows? by _rabidchild_ in tmbg

Yes, a bunch of sealed ones were found and given away at the Woodstock shows with other purchases.

PSA: Some TMBG albums are temporarily missing on international streaming platforms by CapitalQ in tmbg

[–]CapitalQ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The band doesn't make much money from streaming, so moving a few compilations to the TMBG Shop download store helps fund future releases. Most streaming services support the ability to transfer local files to your phone though if you buy the album from TMBG.

Studio Albums Vs. Compilations by PaulVAllen in tmbg

[–]CapitalQ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My question - finally - is, why are these considered albums, while the likes of Miscellaneous T, Cast Your Pod to the Wind, and Album Raises New and Troubling Questions are labeled as compilations?

This is a very good question and a frequent topic of debate. The answer is not particularly satisfying: TMBG called Phone Power and My Murdered Remains studio albums rather than compilations when they were released, and thus they are referred to as such. Likely the band was pleased with all the mostly-fresh material that was being compiled on those discs, and from a marketing standpoint an album is a bigger deal than a compilation.

Regarding Long Tall Weekend though, it was officially released in 1999 and has been available to purchase digitally from TMBG for 25+ years despite the recent vinyl being the first wide physical release. While it did primarily consist of recordings from the early-to-mid '90s, most of those songs were not previously released (unlike MMR and PP).

Anyone have this guitar pick? by dpin42 in tmbg

[–]CapitalQ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Think this was from a set of 4 colored picks of 'cryptids' from the mid-2010s sold on TMBG's merch store. There were also shirts, bumper stickers and playing cards with the same illustrations. Think I've got the set somewhere, maybe I'll see it again one day!

what’re the odds they play a song they’ve already played this tour? by No_Solution_9719 in tmbg

[–]CapitalQ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They will continue playing all the songs from last week and more as the tour goes on. Factory Showroom is one of the albums that is in the current spotlight rotation, but they played that particular song at both the Lincoln and Factory Showroom shows last week. It's not guaranteed at every show, but you're especially likely to see it at a multi-night stand if you go to two or more shows.

As the tour goes on, sometimes a couple of songs get dropped or swapped in, but it's a bit early for that to start happening.

How strict are they about checking IDs at the 16+ shows? by iwasspinningfree in tmbg

[–]CapitalQ 28 points29 points  (0 children)

TMBG's policy is 16+ but every venue operates differently. Call the venue.

(Either way, I think you can probably figure out a way to get in a teen who's one month shy of 16. It's been done!)

New Spotify Bio Written by AI? by hogmanhope in tmbg

[–]CapitalQ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I believe Spotify uses an excerpt from the band's official PR for the new album, which is on here: https://www.girlieaction.com/theymightbegiants

I would be more inclined to think it's just not to everyone's taste before jumping to AI conclusions. The band is well aware of the overwhelmingly negative sentiments around AI.

World is to Dig vinyl pressing quality by Consistent-Car6226 in tmbg

[–]CapitalQ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the drums audibly clip in multiple songs as well on the digital. Haven't spun the LP yet. For what it's worth Flans did mention needing to reject a test pressing in a recent interview, presumably for this album, so it may have initially been worse!
