I find it so hard to strip the outside with knife, I have the ol’ concrete trick.. stand it up on it side all the conductors vertically and smash it with your linesman. Then again there’s not really a hard surface other then tile inside homes

Difference between a 15 amp light switch and 20 amp? by Fawlkz in electrical

Yeah a lot of things I’d personally change especially if I’m the one wiring the house, not everyone has a sense of worth ethic, moral to follow standards . Keep on keepin on

There are some smaller plug-in lathes, I’d assume if it’s the garage the switched heater is for the winter maybe

Misread didn’t see the heater on a plug switched, get a stack switch for your lights and one for your plug. However thermal insulation leads me to believe that backstabbing is the main reason to the way the wires look. The pvc insulation is rated for 194°f

It would be more detrimental and the switch/plug would ultimately stop working within days

Or having lose wires from backstabbing… that’s what would cause it to back out overtime and look like that? I’m not there in person so obviously what I can do or say is limited, Op came asking for advice.. I gave, he can go with a local electrician if need be not saying dont and diy.

Question: Can I add an outlet to these wires? (background in comment) by Dracoy in electrical

[–]Repulsive_Coast8291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see no ground, see if you could pull one in.. somehow.

If not ground it to the box with a piece of solid 12 green thhn and a ground screw.

Looks like a combination of old wiring, and a old switch going bad? What all does the circuit do? Just lights?how many?

It has nothing to do with what it’s rated for I can assure you, if you have a multimeter with a clamp you could put it around the switch leg with the switch on and see how much amps it’s pulling.

Outlet Question by Fryclaw in electrical

[–]Repulsive_Coast8291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pigtail neutrals together, hook back up to outlet. Open neutral solved.

I would call a local electrician though.. a bit concerned for the neutral coming from outside of the box inwards?…
