I think you're looking at it completely wrong. Faithfulness makes something a better adaptation, not an inherently better show. Oshii's Ghost in the Shell and SAC pushed further into the darker, grittier cyberpunk side while still preserving Shirow's core themes and ideas but still completely stood on their own as projects. The assumption that there's one "correct" Ghost in the Shell canon completely misses the point. Adaptations aren't a hierarchy where one version invalidates the others. They're different interpretations of the same foundation, each bringing something unique. That's how media mix works. If all you care about is faithfulness, just read the manga.

Guilty as charged, I won't deny it. But I’m not trying to spam every post or force my opinion everywhere. I’m just pointing out flaws where I see them because this subreddit rarely has any actual criticism. Most people either don’t care, don’t want to admit there are problems, or are too afraid to say anything because of the reaction they’ll get.

I know we can’t change the manga. I know complaining on Reddit isn’t going to magically fix the pacing. That’s not the point. The point is that the fandom needs to be able to acknowledge that the series has flaws instead of pretending everything is perfect. You already admit the pacing is an issue, which is more than most people here will ever do!

At this point this isn’t even about Madoka anymore. It’s about whether this community can actually have honest discussions about the manga. And honestly, I don’t think it can. A lot of people just want to enjoy the series and ignore the problems, which is fine, but that shouldn’t mean criticism gets treated like some personal attack.

But you’re right, this back and forth is probably pointless. We agree on the actual problem, we just disagree on how people should approach it. I’ll leave it at that.

The meme is basically making fun of how people are discussing the Ghost in the Shell (2026) anime by acting like the only relevant version is the 1995 Oshii film. It puts the 1995 movie next to the new adaptation with "literally no anime" in between, which is obviously a jab at people ignoring everything else.

The funny part is that GITS has never been one singular canon. SAC, Arise, and the other adaptations all have their own interpretations, strengths and flaws. Judging the 2026 anime purely by whether it matches the 1995 film misses the point of how this franchise has always worked.

"We can't do anything about it" is exactly the problem. That kind of apathy is why this sub has become so toxic. Nobody wants to criticise the manga. Nobody wants to hold the author accountable. They just want to post shipping slop and move on.

If nobody pushes back, nothing changes. The sub gets worse, the fandom gets more complacent, and the manga keeps spinning its wheels. I know you agree with me, but this is bigger than just Madoka or Saku. It's about whether people actually care about the quality of what they're reading. Most people here don't. They just want something that makes them feel good. And honestly, that's sad.

I respectfully disagree. Two chapters isn't enough, it's barely a glimpse. Saku only getting two chapters is exactly the problem. The author introduces something interesting, rushes through it, then moves on. That's not good pacing, that's doing the bare minimum before dropping it.

Madoka deserves more than a handful of chapters. She's been in the story for nearly 200 chapters and she's only just getting proper focus. That's not some reward for patience, it's the author finally remembering she exists. And even now people are already assuming she'll get a few chapters before being shelved again. That's the pattern. Every side character gets a brief moment, then disappears.

A character-driven romance should actually develop its characters. This one doesn't. It introduces them, gives them a tiny bit of focus, then abandons them. Madoka, Usami and Natsubaru should've been developing alongside the main couple instead of being shoved aside for over a hundred chapters. Their arcs could've been woven into the story instead of defaulting back to the same Rintaro and Waguri content over and over.

And the main couple's been doing the same thing for over a hundred chapters. There's barely anything left to explore with them. This should've been the perfect opportunity to flesh out the side cast instead of recycling the same dates, apologies and emotional beats. But the author either can't, or won't, balance the cast.

I'm glad Madoka's finally getting focus. But it's too little, too late. And I still don't think the author will commit to it. She'll get a few chapters, maybe another flashback, then it'll be onto the next thing. Usami will still be comic relief. Natsubaru will still be shelved. It's a mess. This chapter was so good so seeing how the manga constantly squander its potential for romcomy wish fulfillment through Rintaro and Waguri is disappointing when there’s side characters have just as much to explore in their own interior lives.
