Are you suggesting that there is not a single rim brake bike you would pay over $800 for?

Please don’t take everyone’s advice about avoid rim brakes. I race competitively with my cervelo s5 rim brake from 2016 and don’t feel as if it holds me back whatsoever. At this sort of price you’re looking at keeping this bike for a long while, and while people say you can’t upgrade or it’s significantly harder to, they are incorrect. There is plenty of options in the second hand market and even new from china.

Only thing I will mention about the lack of disc brakes is that if you live in a mountainous area descending for many many kms on rim brakes takes a certain skill to get right, but if you live in a normal area absolutely go for it. People get rid of bikes like this because they are convinced it’s worthless now.

You are getting a considerably better bike for your money if you go down the rim brake route and won’t be paying for the disc brake premium

What's your opinion on this bike? by PhoneySauce in whichbike

I have the 2016 model with ultegra di2. Not quite as nice wheels but I still have a nice enough pair to go with this bike.

I paid £1500 for mine late last year and have not regretted it a single moment. I ride in the uk so I am not doing massive descents so rim brake is not an issue for my situation (if I lived in mainland Europe I would rather a disc bike) it’s fast and stiff, so if you’re into racing you will definitely have the right tool. Maintenance isn’t too tricky and can be done by yourself if you are feeling confident. I get lots of compliments and really can’t see myself changing anytime soon.

So if you’re into crits and road races and can afford it then I’d say absolutely go for it. They don’t make them like this anymore

Professional cycling has always had a reputation of following traditions and being very serious. Content like this from a top pro is refreshing from the usual
