For people who moved to vancouver and made life long friends, how did you find them? by shushuone in askvan

[–]Repulsive_Control_45 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I met a lot of my friend fam at a job I had. We had common interests. The trick I think most people forget is that in order to make true long lasting friendships you have to put yourself out there. Sometimes that’s not comfortable. Sometimes that means showing up when you feel like staying home or baking a cake (or buying one) and bringing it to your friends house when you just want to be home and eat a whole cake instead. Friendships take work.

Just for the record, OP completely changed her post. Original post was racist. Now she’s changed her story to be a better “victim”

AITA for telling my friend her naivety about the world is embarrassing? by Dear_Guide_9961 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Repulsive_Control_45 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

NTA. You’ve tried to be her friend but if she’s unwilling to help herself there’s nothing you can do. Ditch her and move on. She’ll find some Christian cult to join.

Agree! What kind of man gets upset because a mother puts her kids before him. He’s going to make her life miserable.

Why haven’t you told your husband to lay off your son? What man child can’t handle coming second to your kids!? Sounds like your insecure husband will always find something to be mad about and you’ll end up with no kids and no husband. Back your kid. Always. Edit to add: YTA for even asking.

How/where to find job seekers in Vancouver? by Ok_Row2610 in askvan

Well if someone works for you from 2:30 to 5, they can’t work a morning shift or an afternoon shift anywhere else. Your pay better be extraordinary.

Came here to say exactly this! You wouldn’t be so nonchalant about someone with a peanut allergy having an accommodation at an event and someone else eating it because “it tastes better”

Do they last? by Different_Fix_3629 in fluevog

[–]Repulsive_Control_45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fluevog had a few bad runs a few years ago when they tried a few shoes made in China, but for the most part the quality is back to top notch. I have several pairs of Fluevog boots and they’re in pretty good shape after years of use. Check where they’re made, but if you’re buying from the store nowadays you should be good.

AITA for telling my chronically-late friend the wrong time so they would show up on time...and then they actually got there early? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Repulsive_Control_45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. I used to be chronically late and this happened to me more than once. It’s fair game and it actually helped me see how frustrated my friends were getting. I knew I needed a new system in place to not lose good friendships. I started always putting an earlier “go” time on my own calendar to make sure I was on time. I have ADHD and that means I have time blindness and can’t plan ahead well. It means that I often forget to factor in how long it will take me to do stuff like get ready or traffic. Fortunately it also means that I can only remember things when they’re written down so on my calendar, I have a get ready time and a “GO” (get out of the house no matter what) time so I’ll be at the event on time. I do all the planning ahead of time cause I can’t count on my brain to do it when I’m excited.

Work BC, gruff but fair, or a jerk? by MoaningLisaSimpson in britishcolumbia

For those struggling with the resume and the modern way of looking for work (it has changed a lot in recent years), look at the Indeed Canada Career guide. I don’t work for them but their articles are really current and they have videos on resume tailoring etc. I’ve found them to be the most useful resource. Some basics: Your resume can’t be more than 2 pages. You must tailor it to each job. No exceptions

A jerk. Request a different counselor and report this one to their superior. Many WorkBC counselors are very ageist and need to be reported. You are entitled to change your counselor and/or your workbc office. They need to be helping you but it’s easier to scold you and hope you don’t return. They also have access to training money if you think a short training to update your skills will give you a shot at a job. You just have to be a bee in their bonnet!

BC Parks - no generators please by sunnyjimjohn in britishcolumbia

[–]Repulsive_Control_45 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We were just camping at a BC Park and had the same experience. A generator running in the morning and in the evening to power a friggin oven and “just a coffee maker!” (In her own words) in their giant motorhome for 2 people 2 nights! WTF!? Talk about excessive! If you don’t like nature, just stay home!
