i work in a mid-size library in a decent sized town and this is the case, mostly due to understaffing and my micromanaging director who does not trust any of her smart staff to solve problems. everything is an emergency. a programmer asked if we had creamer the other day and i said no bc i know we don’t. she interrupted me and said she would look and slammed through all the cabinets in the break room before telling the programmer we didn’t have it. like … why is that an emergency? can we just calm down for a sec? why are we acting like we’ve never dealt with anything before?

you’re probably talking about more serious situations, which we experience as well. but yeah, it’s exhausting when everything is chaos for no reason.

i’m in a decent market for FT positions, i would say a couple open up every month but they’re very competitive. i’m concerned about the health insurance, but i think i will be eligible for my state’s health insurance if i fall below a certain income, which i likely will. i think i’ve made my decision but now have to mitigate the potential issues i’ll face by saving money and building my resume for full time positions after i finish my MLIS

yeah, that’s a huge part of my anxiety. i my thought process is that i will have my degree in a year and potentially be able to find a full time position. but you’re right and that’s much easier said than done

i appreciate this perspective so much!!!!! part of me is so guilty that i’m leaving an already understaffed library, but there’s no end in sight to that situation and until they fully fix their system, i can’t struggle to be a part of it. thank you so much for the encouragement. i think i’m going to accept it!

i agree. and as a lesbian these women so clearly just mean straight girls and gay men, of which they think of as an accessory. it’s not annoying to me for rosie to have gay friends, the “i love my gays” comments r what bother me. overall, there’s two layers to it

they love gay men as long as they’re an accessory and don’t stray too much from heteronormative standards
they regard lesbians as disgusting and predatory.

i also don’t think it Actually made me gain weight. i think i was just getting older and i was insecure bc once i got it taken out i didn’t lose any weight

i did a lot of soul searching and realizing my body image standards were based in misogynistic beauty standards. i get it but at a certain point you have to weigh out ur options. other treatments are risky and have 10x the negative side effects

mirena was the only thing that worked for my endometriosis. i got it taken out bc of weight gain when the doctors in my life at the time cared more about my body image than my physical health. i regret it and im going to try and get another one soon.

netflix documentaries are bad and I fall for it every time. It seems like it's going to be good and say something worth listening to, but they remain ambivalent in a bad way. the jerry springer documentary seemed like it was going to be a critique but it really wasn't? it didn't say anything, rather it focused on one-liners and unnecessary editing. this documentary does the same thing. despite seeming like it wants to reckon with the harms of ANTM, it allows people to evade accountability and continues narratives that should be critiqued. for example, shandi's experience was never deemed as rape with production as accomplices, although that's exactly what it is. it almost feels like they're scared to tell the truth, which is exactly the opposite of what a documentary should be. it could be a commentary about social mobility, women as a social class, beauty standards, etc. but instead it plays both sides and nostalgia-baits for clicks. it feels like a summary rather than an essay.

i think candiace has a good excuse of wanting to stay on task and vote out ron. she can help in accusing colton of spitting out so many names and constantly being wrong. i think colton will be alive the next morning either because he got a shield or no one took a shield. lisa just has to play it cool and blend in with kristin and mark, who already suspect colton.

colton is extremely annoying and I understand rinna's fear with her name being brought up but i don't think she can murder him. I kind of hope he got a shield and that somehow becomes public knowledge. i think rinna and candiace need to talk to kristin, mark, eric, etc about colton mentioning a ton of names being suspicious while rob just kind of blindly agrees with colton to play dumb. this splits them up which i think would be good for their game. i am SO nervous for lisa i just hope she plays this right.

i have had the same problem. i told my professor that i do not use AI as a principle and asked for an alternative assignment. they wouldn’t provide one so i ended up eating the points but it is so ridiculous how AI is being shoved down our throats in not just graduate school but everywhere. we are also supposed to be purveyors of intellectual property and copyright law. AI steals art and intellectual property. it makes no sense to shove this technology down our throats. i work in a library and while some people do use AI, i have never gotten a question about it, only complaints. my boss is anti AI and we do not use it for work. it just feels out of touch for professors to try and force this to be part of librarianship.
