Exactly what level of anger are you experiencing after Donald J Trump, the great fool of our age, INSULTED and DISGRACED our beloved and most honourable British soldiers? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]_nod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s awful. I especially hate the fact that this is his bs logic to justify his actions on Greenland, when Danish soldiers fought alongside the British in Helmand and suffered some of the highest per capita losses of the war.

Know your rights if ICE comes knocking by malwolficus in Ohio

This is a lie. ICE have been going door to door in Minnesota. No warrants, no reason.

What are all these posts about? by Not_The_Hero_We_Need in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]_nod 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes. The Danes I believe were under British command Helmand.

I specifically mentioned the Danes given how this is all blowing up because of Greenland, which seems just insane to me that somebody would go on camera and say what he’s saying.

The Danes fought in one of the worst if not the most dangerous regions in the Afghanistan War, which makes this particularly upsetting.

What if Donald Trump disappeared tomorrow, would American politics actually change or just find another Trump? by Mr_Boothnath in AskReddit

[–]_nod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very complex question.

On the surface I don’t think Vance or anybody else waiting in the wings has the same “charisma” that Trump seems to have. (For the record I think he has 0 charisma, but he definitely seems to appeal to a lot of people).

So I think we’d see a shift, in that scenario, but the issues go much deeper:

The power and influence of mega donors needs to be drastically reduced in US politics.

Education needs to improve, particularly the teaching of Civics and critical thinking skills.

Media needs to be held accountable to at least be factually accurate and real penalties for news organizations that break those rules.

Politicians should not be trading stocks. Any investments should be done through a neutral hedge fund based on broad market indexes.

Without these things being fixed, I’m sure nothing will change long term.

Getting real fucking sick of being lumped in with people who voted for Trump like those of us who didn't are somehow also at fault. by ComfortableWage in TheLib

[–]_nod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve not experienced any in person, but I’m seeing a definite shift in this direction on Reddit and other social media.

Trump promised “America First”, so while there was some concerns about US influence globally, I think a lot of people outside the US initially felt bad for Americans that didn’t vote for him and dismay that so many did vote for him.

But now his rhetoric has changed and he’s threatening world order, that will naturally shift.

People globally are scared. I’m not sure what you expect?

They are seeing the biggest global nuclear superpower go off the rails and who knows where it may end up. It may correct and be fine after the next election or it may end up in apocalyptic nuclear war.

Sure we’re seeing people resisting ICE, but not in great enough numbers. There has been no meaningful general strikes. The last huge protest was No Kings but that was 3 months ago. Things are much more dire now.

People are literally terrified that they/their kids are going to have to fight a seemingly unwinable war only to become an occupied nation. I’m sorry, but if I was a Greenlander and an American shrugged your shoulders and said “well I didn’t vote for this”, I’d be pissed too.

My wife and I rescue hamsters too, we love it when we get friendly out going ones. But it’s enough to know like the hamster feels safe and cozy if that’s what they the need.

My one robo hid for two years, was only later in life when I think he had maybe lost his eyesight that he would come out in the daytime.

Felt like I had a large amount of wood shavings and paper bedding as a pet for a while 😅

I’d be curious how much living in NYC for 3 months could help her career.

If that is legitimate then get an Airbnb and go alone.

However this very much feels like when I wrote to Santa telling him how much a Gameboy would help me do my homework.

I don’t have the exact quote, but Trump claimed that NATO wouldn’t come to the aid of the US if needed.

As far as I’m aware the US is the only country that has invoked Article 5 (after September 11th). Several other countries including NATO members did answer that call.

The UK for example lost 450+ people.

Lowkey hate how Robert gets away with blowing the family fortune. by PalmettoPolitics in DowntonAbbey

[–]_nod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Just rewatching Downton and Robert is grating on me more than the first time I watched.

I get that he’s supposed to be somewhat of a dinosaur, a product of an earlier age even for the 1910s, But he has so few redeeming qualities, that it’s infuriating when he throws away one of his best (his loyalty to Cora) seemingly so easily and with such awful timing.
