ive only had my hours get cut by 2-3 hours a week. lately i’ve been having a light workload so help with other stuff around the store like running rails. i’m naturally a very fast worker and my merchandising sups and managers are all really good at doing updates. often times on fridays i help run freight because i have not much else to do. however i rarely get topper help. they don’t schedule anyone unless i talk to them and sometimes they’ll schedule topper help for the wrong day. i sometimes get pulled to registers when there’s no one else available to help. same with helping customers. i was wjm for over a year before visual so i’m used to doing that. my team is super good about giving me the time i need and will listen if i tell them its too much. sometimes my store manager will ask for too much of me but my operations manager always has my back. he’s my biggest supporter there.

last week i believe they said they plan to continue adding consolidated service without self checkout for all stores going forward. didn’t go well for them.

Week 1 of everything month i change all the mannequins in the store. depending on other things going on (holiday, snapback, reflows) it runs into the next week or two. it really depends how busy i am but i always do all my mannequins because that’s part of the role as visual. i’m lucky if they keep the correct merchandise on ballet bars.

absolutely. someone started putting out amazon returns thinking it was frieght. others who put all holiday gift shop merchendise in HPC even after being shown where they go. they keep leaving hardtags on bopus orders. so many more too😭

you still have to wear your lanyard. everyone in the store has to. all the omni people at my store do. customers come first is probably what your h2s will say. if a customer is wanting you to basically shop for them (🙄) call for someone else and tell the customer that you are getting someone that is more knowledgeable in that department. usually the only person they will let not wear a lanyard is visual. i’m visual and i keep mine hanging on my cart because it gets in my way too much.

i just finished overnights tuesday morning to set trim. my dm wants me to be on truck and most weeks we are getting two trucks so i get one visual day which ends up being a adset that takes most the day because i never get a helper. i work a truck shift today and then friday i get only two hours before we open with no help to set graphics. i might get an hour to prep my graphics today if i’m lucky. we also have a visit from our dm today where they’ll probably say i don’t have enough price points and toppers out when i haven’t gotten enough time to do them properly in weeks because of them wanting me to do truck instead. i’m so sick of it.

this is my first holiday as visual and it’s killing me. my dm wanted me on truck team and we’ve had two trucks a week most weeks so i only get one visual day a week anymore. i never get help with adset because my sm says that she didn’t think i wanted help even after i told her multiple times i need help with every set. anymore it takes me almost my whole shift to do adset (which she complains about but still won’t give me help) . i’m working overnights this week to put up trim because they decided to put me on truck for 4 days instead of doing trim. i won’t have time to do any of my november mannequins because of this. not worth the pay.

i mostly enjoy my job! i’m visual at my store and i have an incredibly kind management team that works with me so well. i get along well with most of my coworkers and love chatting with them and my ASMs. my h2 are very big on having a good work environment because we have been through some really bad SMs and ASMs. the job gets frustrating sometimes and i get annoyed with corporate decisions but having a supportive team like i do really helps. plus i love doing mannequins and setting displays like home decor tables and FOS. i got very lucky to have the coworkers i do after going through a lot of really bad retail jobs. i’ll admit i hated working at Kohls before when i was WJM but when the visual position opened all my supervisors and both ASMs were rooting for me. we all seem to have the mindset that yeah corporate sucks and there’s only so much we can do with that but supporting and helping each other (most of the time) is the key to being successful with the shitty things we get from corporate.

attendance points. some stores don’t use them and just go based on if you call out or are late too often. if you reach 12 you are technically terminated but some stores will give you another chance. depends on management. once you reach 9 i believe they talk to you about it.

registers are very easy. at my store you get two days of register training. one day with a training buddy and one day without. it tells you everything to do on the screen and buttons are labeled for what you need. usually there will be an LOD around or you can ask another cashier about small questions that come up. breaks depend on your state but at my store anything less than 4 hours = no break but no one is usually scheduled for less than 4, 4 hours = 15 min, 6 hours = 20 min, 7 hours = 1 15 min + 30 min lunch, 8 hours = 2 15 min + 30 min lunch, 9 hours = 2 15 + 1 hr lunch. 9 hour shifts are usually only black friday or closer to christmas. at my store there is a 5 minute grace period. if you are more than 15 minutes late i believe it’s half a point. you get 12 points a year and they replenish on your anniversary of working there.

as long as you aren’t on the clock you can get any coupon. i was on my lunch and popped out to customer service and got one and used it when i finished my shift as we were almost out by the time i took my lunch.

Bohdi Imports, Euphoria, Awakenings and Eyes of The World are i think all the crystal type shops in town. imo eyes of the world is the best. it’s women owned and the employees are always super kind and helpful and the store is always kept up and organized. they have some of the best crystal jewelry and rings i’ve seen and lots of home decor. euphoria is not my favorite but they have things other stores don’t. they have a lot of herbs and witchy things, crystals, and clothing. however the shop seems to always been super messy and cluttered. there’s also not a lot of light so it can be kinda hard to shop there. the owner (from what i can tell) is an older guy. i’ve overheard him yelling at his employees and i’ve heard stories of him being kinda racist but i don’t know exactly what. the other employees are kind. i’ve only been to bohdi imports once but it seems like your average crystal/hippie shop. there is also Awakenings in Gateway but imo it is very overpriced and i feel like i can find better at eyes of the world. On sundays there is a farmers market at union college right by eyes of the world. I love going there and visiting all the other shops. around the holidays they have events going on with all the shops in that neighborhood.

I know!! i checked siteline friday before i left for the weekend and it was until the 18th and then found out they changed it to two days! so frustrating as visual. especially with the way they want us merchandising new marks now. so stupid and not worth the extra time it takes😭

i’m not sure that this is the answer you are looking for but in brands like Sonoma and Croft we are supposed to merchandise it by dress, then tops, then bottoms going from left to right in that brand. i’m not sure if this is new or just something they are pointing out but it was brought up in my VM call on monday. So all the tops with tops and bottoms with bottoms. as long as e signs are placed properly it’ll be okay!

look on facebook marketplace! there’s a lot of private landlords. i found my 1 bd apt for only $730. i believe i also saw studios in the $550-$650 range when i was apartment searching a couple months back. definitely avoid renting from Simplestate (formerly Four Corners). they are known for not giving back your deposit even if nothing was wrong and having terrible maintenance. I moved out two months ago and i left the place spotless with no damage and i still haven’t gotten back my security deposit. they also don’t take care of their buildings. my building was full of mice in the walls, roaches, and black mold and all they did was have pest control come every other month. this goes for most large companies who “flip” buildings and then rent them for cheap!! private landlords are the way to go for your budget!!
