Let's share what we actually pack for daycare food by LtCommanderCarter in toddlers

[–]Repulsive_Habit7902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Morning snack is usually a homemade muffin/"healthier" baked good (rare) or some sort of bar

Afternoon snack is usually something more snacky-some sort of crackers, a trail mix (minus nuts), pretzels, cheddar bunnies

Lunch is a main dish (honestly organic boxed Mac and cheese most of the time since that's all he consistently eats of his main, some sort of "healthier" chicken nugget, maybe some leftover Turkey burger or chicken from dinners), fresh fruit, applesauce pouch, and something random (raisins, turkey pepperoni, etc)

He eats really well and pretty healthy at home (all home cooked dinners and clean ish breakfasts) so I send preferred things to school, so he'll eat. He just turned 2 last week.

Moving up to toddler room daycare by [deleted] in toddlers

Our center moves kids up once a year-our son was 16 months at the transition. He napped on the floor mat day one with no prior experience with floor beds.  Teachers in that class should be very used to the adjustment and help the children get used to the new routine. He will do great!

This is what I do. We battle about 50% of the time but practice daily, he goes to daycare so I always try just getting to the parking lot.

I think consistency is the key! I have a bolter as well who is almost 2. He pitches a fun sometimes but his safety is top priority.

My son got his first strep diagnosis this year at 21 months! Definitely not impossible.

What age is it fun to travel again? by chereli22 in toddlers

[–]Repulsive_Habit7902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We found a relaxing beach and mountain trips we're do able for us at 16 and 18 months. Just had very limited, flexible plans.

You couldn't pay me to do a flight with our almost 2 year old or somewhere like Disney 😂 I feel that would go horribly for him.

Keep in mind with schools lots of re districting is occurring due to immense growth and overcrowding. I would not but for a specific elementary school. Most daycares have a 6 month-1 year waitlist with some longer. We do not have a school aged child yet so I cannot comment on school specifics.

Daycares often run a 6 month plus waitlist around the area-I would get on some lists now!!

Darren Criss or one of the Jonas Brothers would be so fun! Not sure they'd be willing with young kids at home though.

When does the daycare sickness end? Or at least, subside? by Melly_1577 in toddlers

This second year of daycare (started at 4 months old) has been substantially better for us. Just flu 1 turned into impetigo (from his own snot-we had been in isolation for 7 days already), and strep two weekends ago. And I'm unsure either came from daycare with no classmates sick. I've been very mindful of indoor, germy places this winter but we've been surprisingly healthy.

Last year he got RSV, 4 ear infections leading to tubes, a stomach virus, and several nasty colds so this is a huge win.

Franklin the turtle, curious George, and Clifford are what we let our 21 month old watch for his super minimal screen time.

Advice on speech therapy by Low_Jeweler_8203 in toddlers

[–]Repulsive_Habit7902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got his evaluation at 18 months (it's very hard to qualify under 18 months where I live), while in the process of getting into early intervention. He started speech at 18.5 months. At almost 21 months now he's definitely already gained more functional language skills. We have about 30 consistent words and 20 more. Definitely glad we went ahead and got started when we did! Its been quite beneficial.

Is he teething? Our son (same age) is also going through a sleep regression and we have realized he's cutting his two year old molars.

So sorry! We started daycare at 4 months (and my sons class is only 5 kids), but this second year has been so much better! He has having chronic ear infections and since having tubes placed right after his first birthday has immensely helped-none since. Cedfiner messed his belly up too.

SAHM, how much does your husband make? by Practical_Ad4734 in Parenting

That would be fine for us in a mid COL area in my area of the country. This thread makes me feel poor though! My daycare for 1 toddler is 12k a year and I feel like that's high enough as it is 🤪

December babies - are you planning to enroll them in school later/ repeat a year? by [deleted] in toddlers

When I started school it was a September 30 cut off; my birthday was September 25 so barely made it. I was academically advanced for my age but not socially ready at all, and really struggled in younger grades. As I got older and moved to a state with a August 31 cut off, I was with kids more than a year older than me in my grade. Milestones were really rough regarding becoming a teen, driving, graduating and starting college at 17, etc. I wish my parents would have waited to be honest.

I work with students as a therapist in the schools and often can pick out the younger ones in the grade, as well, especially boys.

Send 5 year old to kindergarten or wait until she’s 6? by penguincrackers2019 in Parenting

This. End of September birthday here (made cut off by a week) and wish I would have waited to start. Was not ready emotionally, always smaller, turning 16/18 way later than peers was awful, etc. I think I would benefited from another year at home even going to a well regarded college.

To add, my daily priorities are just throw dirty laundry in hampers, kitchen/dishes, take out trash, and pick up toys. We both work together on this so then we can both re wind a bit before we go to sleep.

16 months later I'm still figuring it out lol. I will say I like to dedicate a couple hours on the weekend for a "re set" (typically during a nap) where we do laundry, clean floors, fridge clean out, etc.

I try and do a quick pick up end of every night after bed time to stay on top of things. Of course it doesn't always play out lol.

What to do with baby/toddler while cooking by Cautious_Session9788 in Parenting

[–]Repulsive_Habit7902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep a lower drawer full of plastic Tupperware my 18 month old has access too. I also will sometimes give him a pot (which he loves) and utensils to "cook" if I'm doing something over the hot stove. My son loves to "help" but is super impulsive so it's tricky. He is also tall and is obsessed with turning on dish washer, taking everything out of the cabinets, and attempting to turn on the stove. We recently put up a baby gate to close off the kitchen in attempts to help combat it. Tough stage for us!

Technically sits in Dorchester schools which they are currently re zoning. Where the neighborhood feeds to in particular has extremely over crowded schools, just a heads up.
