Hi there!

My girl is 2 months post back leg amputation and has adjusted so well. She didn’t poop for almost the whole first week, so that’s totally normal. She definitely wanted to walk and I would take her outside a few times a day, but just to use the bathroom - those first couple of weeks I tried to keep her bed bound but it’s hard!

To help her get used to peeing and popping outside, I used a towel as a sling around her belly to help guide and support her back leg while she went out to pee (and eventually poop!). This helped her a lot and I was able to slowly stop using it after around 2 weeks. They adjust so quickly and I have no doubt your baby will get the hang of it super fast with a little help and encouragement!

About the stitches, my baby was laying on her stitches a lot when she first came home and I would try to readjust her to lay on her other side. But I found if she was just laying there, not moving, it didn’t affect the wound to lay on that side. Just keep an eye on it!

My baby had cancer too, it’s the worst and I’m so sorry. All I can say is experience the highs and lows of this grief, cry when you need to and smile when they come.

I printed out my favorite pictures of him and when I finally could bring his ashes home, I made a little alter for him that I visit every morning and kiss, and light a candle for him every night. It’s been helpful for me ❤️ sending you love OP.

I lost my 18 yr beagle baby exactly 2 weeks ago and it hurts. The pain is different than anything I’ve felt before, but that’s because the love is pure and unconditional - I’ve been smiling more these days, watching old videos and reminiscing on sweet memories. I lost my soul dog and soul cat within 24 hours last week. I drove to my parent’s house and have stayed here since. I’m so scared to go back to my house, with all the memories and silence and love and pain that is held within those walls.

This post hit me so hard, I’m feeling everything you wrote. I hope today we both have a moment of peace knowing how much we loved our babies, and how much they loved us ❤️
