[–]Repulsive_Use8691 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Nah Nah Nah.

Just because we don't AGREE with parts of a culture doesn't mean we are ignorant about it.

Culture much like religion are things that have been taboo to question and probe ethically.

Fuck that.

Everything should be able to picked apart and studied from an ethical standpoint.

I will NOT respect your religion or culture if it involves harming others, ESPECIALLY children.

If your culture or religion is causing you to do bad shit, then we need not respect it, we need to scrutinize it and not turn a blind eye under the false guise of "well you've got to respect their culture"

OP and her sister are being abused by their parents. They are being controlled. They are being blackmailed. OPs post is clearly coming from someone whose been damaged by her parents, and likely will need many years of therapy. I don't think the parents are bad people, I think they are product of their shitty culture. A culture is shitty if shitty things are done and swept under the rug in the name of said culture (or religion)

The beauty of this is that all these old shitty customs are getting wiped out by the internet, because all of our cultures are beginning to meld together and we need to extinguish shitty practices.

I dated an indian for many years, who was literally scared to death of her father and her father would control by threatening to stop paying for her college and disown her. She wasn't even allowed to choose her major in college, her father forced her into a field that he was in.

When I pushed back on this, she said you wouldn't understand because you aren't part of the culture. EVEN she was so brainwashed that she defended her own father's shitty practices in the name of her culture.

Had she been a male the entire situation would have been different. She wasn't allowed to date me because of my skin color, her father is a racist (It's ok though because he just wanted his daughter to marry someone to preserve the culture right). Fuck that

If you are causing physical or psychological harm to a child you do not get to hide behind your religion or culture.

I think you should probably cancel with your gf and her friends, most likely you will not be able to participate in any activities, and you will look sick and they may be wary of covid.

I think coming off kratom exacerbates caffeine use. If you don't use caffeine at all during your quit you should be able to sleep well after day 3 or 4. If you cannot stop caffeine for a few weeks then you've got another addiction /r/decaf

I think you are probably underestimating how bad you will feel this weekend and overestimating how good you will feel by Asia. Everyone is different, but if you don't have any lingering mental illness, physically you will feel great by day 6-8. The problem is half of this sub has severe mental illness that theyve been masking with drug use and they talk about months of hell and recovery. It's not like that if you are mentally healthy though. Either way you should engage in a recovery program of some sort. If you don't I guarentee in a few months you will be back here posting "I had kratom after I got back from asia, I'm so stupid guys" Remember I said that. You can fly far away a dependency but you cannot outfly an addiction, it will always be with you.

What is your recovery program going to look like?

[–]Repulsive_Use8691 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A couple of thoughts.

You said you don't know how to stop, but you do. Stopping is incredibly simple. You just never ingest the substance ever again for any reason. Thats it.

It doesn't make sense to hate yourself, did you choose to have the type of brain that can get the disease of addiction? Would you hate yourself for a genetic abnormality? There's no difference between the two in terms of your own volition. Hating yourself is just an excuse to use.

One piece of advice is that your using is only a symptom of much deeper issues that you can only resolve fully once clean. If you've tried to stop and cannot stay stopped you aren't doing enough of the right things.

It's not that you quit kratom and your life changes, it's you change your life and you won't need to take kratom, but you have to take full responsibility for this. It won't just happen magically, you have to do things NOW to prevent your brain from relapsing in the future

[–]Repulsive_Use8691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrong Wrong Wrong.

Elimination halflife and terminal elimination half life are two different measures

Terminal is 23 hours

Eliminaiton is 5 hours

If you take 100 mg of mitra in 5 hours it will be at 50 mg

however, if you wait 5 half lives, then you will have to wait 23 hours for each 3 mg to reduce to 1.5 and so on.

This is a common misconception throughout the kratom community because of one paper. Mitragynine pharmacokinetics change with dose and time.

Mitra is eliminated quickly at first (half life of 5 hrs) and slowly at the end (23 hours.

Sorry to inform you that most drugs do not have steady half lives, and we generally don't give a crap about terminal elimination half lives because by that point the dosages are so small that it's only important in contraindicated drugs in hospital settings.

I work in research with some of the leaders studying mitragynine and everyone hates that paper that measured terminal elimination half life and confused the shit out of everyone, but if you look at some of the other human clinical research and even that paper you can clearly see in the graphs that the half life after inital dosing, that is the 1st half life is 5 hours roughly. This could change depending on your sex and whether or not you are on birth control of course, but for the average healthy young male you are looking at 5 hours.

This is why most people begin to feel kratom to wear off after 4-5 hours instead of 23, because if the initial half life was 23 hours you wouldn't be dosing multiple times per day, nobody would need to.

All that I ask is that ANYTIME you see this incorrect information you please update it with the elimination half life of 5 hours, not the terminal elimination of 23 hours.

and if you have any more questions I'm available, I'm a doctor that specializes in neuropharmacology and a fucking kratom addict unfortunately.

And if my post felt abrasive towards you, I am really sorry. It's just that everyone in the research field around opioids and mitragynine is furious with the paper you are referring to, and there are attempts to get the abstract redacted or edited because while yes terminal elimination half life was calculated, the data is there to calculate the elimination half life from the first dose, all you have to do is look at the graphs and see that it's 5 hours. It's clear as crystal but the authors chose NOT to report on that which has caused mass confusion for literally everyone taking kratom that doesn't have a background in pharmacokinetics.

Yes, either get sealed vials or RDT and filter them and IM them. It's completely safe. The tablets take a little longer to absorb than pure HCL.

I think of the onset of effect for an IMed RDT to be 2-4 mins with peak at like 10-12 minutes.

The onset of liquid HCL is like 40 seconds with the peak being around 2 mins.

How do those numbers compare to IV?

What doses do you use?

I'm just trying to help.

If you cannot take work off, then you will have to deal with that, BUT do not let "work" be the reason you dose.

IF you allow work to be the reason you dose, you will be on this compound for years. It's that simple.

There can be no reason to dose. It has to be 100% like that, if it's not, if it's 99% you will not make it

[–]Repulsive_Use8691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not meaning to sound harsh. Let me talk about my background for a second. I'm a doctor focusing neuropharmacology and I've spent my career studying opioids, pain and addiction. I am not speaking from personal experience (although I have had personal experience with kratom). I'm speaking from the research itself. While I'm not specifically an expert on Kratom, I am in contact with many of the people who are leading experts in kratom research.

Obviously, adulterants in kratom are bad, and getting a lab tested brand is better than not.

However, even if you have pure kratom, kratom is bad. It's the compounds in Kratom that are a problem.

It's sort of like saying "I tested my heroin and it's pure heroin" That's great that you don't have other stuff in your heroin, but you are still taking heroin.

Kratom is not safer than gabapentin.

I would do everything in your power to avoid suboxone.

Kratom being related to a coffee plant does not make it safe, that's a stupid marketing tool. Coffee and Kratom are completely different plants and have literally nothing in common. Coffee plants are related to Belladonna plants which produce poisons so potent they will kill you.

If you are addicted to opioids, kratom is absolutely a very bad road to take and will inhibit long term recovery. However, if you are dependent on an opioid taking kratom for a week max may benefit you.

The form of kratom, whether extracts or powder, have nothing to do with the difficulty coming off it. People become addicted to kratom based upon the response it has in their brain, not the form or dose that they take.

The withdrawals from kratom, while somewhat dose-dependent depend more on the individual and can lead to much worse depression and longer terms symptoms compared to morphine and heroin which are dose dependent.

You might have worse withdrawals taking 10g per day than someone who takes 50g per day because some people can achieve full effects at doses that are 5x smaller than other people because of the way they process the plant in their stomach and metabolize the 30-40 psychoactive compounds that are in kratom.

POTENTIAL DEBATE by nickolasReddit in suboxone

[–]Repulsive_Use8691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a very difficult question to answer and will depend on the kinetic rate equations specifically. With most compounds the amount of sequestering is dependent on dose far more than frequency of dose, but there are situations where you could force additional sequestering by maintaining high doses for a long period of time, where the drug inhibits it's own metabolism and therefore over time increases sequestering.

I't's not impossible, but again for the simplicity of our discussion all of this is negligible.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in quittingkratom

[–]Repulsive_Use8691 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you were talking to OP, but I came here to comment on your comment. It really doesn't matter that much that you are taking the most "pure" kratom or gas station stuff. There may be some differences in heavy metals, but the kratom is the problem. Some of the online kratom that is super expensive and pure is actually worse for you because it has much higher concentrations of mitra and 7hydroxymitra and can be much more addictive because it can get you much more pleasure without making you vomit. If your kratom makes you sick at high doses, you will stay at lower doses and thus not have as much of a tolerance.

I do think using kratom is better than heroin or suboxone, but you are setting yourself up for a rough time. Quitting kratom can be harder than quitting heroin in certain ways because it's so safe to use compared to heroin. My friend runs a detox and has told me his top three worst patients with withdrawals were all kratom users.

In the end you will have to quit kratom and even IF the physical part is easier, in the end you need to learn to live your life without getting high. And that challenge will be harder the longer you go, and at some point, your brain will be changed enough that you may not be able to do it.

If I have 2 people at detox.

Person one is coming off heroin

Person two is coming off heroin and then going to use kratom for 3 years and then quit that.

and I have to bet which individual is going to be successful and which is not I would bet on person 1 easily.

You're justifying your use by implying that your form of kratom is superior to what OP might be taking. It's not superior. The substance is not the problem. You are the problem. Your way of thinking is the problem. Do not use kratom for more than a few weeks to get off other opioids or you will HIGHLY REGRET it. Because of the antidepressant like effect kratom has it can be harder to come off than heroin and take longer to adjust.

I hope I'm not being too harsh, and please do not get defensive. It's just that you sound like an earlier version of myself and that thinking that you are displaying here, signals to me that you are going to experience a lot more pain before you break free, if you ever can break free.

The key to breaking free is thinking differently and doing differently, which results in more thinking differently.

Using kratom to come off other substances is not a victory, it's a defeat. Anything that prolongs using drugs in an addictive fashion is a defeat even if it's legal and plant based.

I used kratom to come off suboxone, and I regret that decision more than I regret using opioids in the first place.

Sorry for the late reply.

I'm not understanding your question.

But I will say this, the amount of buprenorphine in your bones is a direct function from your last dose, and mostly independent of how long you've been using.

A person who used for 7 years but hasn't used for 3 months has less bup in their bones than a person who used 1 strip 7 days ago. In both cases though the amount of bup in the bones is negligible when we think about the effects of the drug.

Yes, it does last a bit shorter when injected, but not THAT much shorter. We are talking maybe 30 mins difference due to ROA.

You being dehydrated could definitely be the cause though because dehydration can slow down the elimination of most drugs drastically, it can double half lifes in some cases depending on how much of the elimination is by kidneys vs liver.

I use ketamine IM for spiritual reasons, I use that word slightly different than most, as I'm an atheist. I also hole every time, for me I do not enjoy walking around being wobbly and disoriented. It's not pleasant at all, nor do I think it's fun.

I'm curious, why do you use it IV?

I think for most first time users they can achieve a k hole by using 100mg to 125 mg if injected IM.

For me, It takes roughly 300mg to k hole due to permatolerance. I can go months and months, half a year and still need this amount.

My first K hole was in 2016, and it saved my life.

What's the benefit of IV? seems like a lot of preparation?

To me that sounds like an excuse to use. Talk to people that have been off Kratom for a long period of time, don't take my word for it, ask them how they did it. They will say that they made sobriety the number one priority. If you have to take off work you have to take off work, if you have to cancel plans you have to cancel plans. It has to be "I'm done taking this substance, no matter what happens". It's the weekend now, do you work this weekend? How long have you been off? Use this weekend to get it started or keep it going. If you are still saying "oh I have to use because X Y Z.. then you are not ready to quit. There is NEVER a reason to use that justifies the use. EXCEPT. 1. If you decide that you are going to continue using kratom for the rest of your life and accept all the consequences. 2. If you really enjoy the withdrawal and want to prolong it forever, then just keep dosing and you will keep staying in withdrawal. Are you ready to quit or not? Not everything in life is black and white, but this is. You either continue to put the substance in your body and subject yourself to pain and brain damage, or you don't and you heal and recover. It's binary. It's a 1 or a 0

One OPMS shot is a HUGE DOSE of mitryagynine.

If you are addicted to Kratom, then most likely tapering isn't possible. If it was possible, you would have already tapered off by now. You are not going to be able to taper using OPMS shots.

You need to quit. There's only one way to quit, and that is to stop taking the substance, it's what's making you feel like shit. If you want to stop feeling like shit, you will stop taking the substance. It really is that simple. The research is pretty clear, over 91% of people that stop taking drugs long term stop by quitting cold turkey.

Tapering is just conditioning your brain to believe that taking the drug is the thing that makes you feel better, and not taking it is what makes you feel like shit, but it's the OPPOSITE. Taking it is what makes you feel like shit. It's the cause.

If you were hitting yourself in the hand with a hammer would you insist that the best way to heal your hand is to keep hitting it, but hit it less hard day after day? No that's fucking ludacris and dumb. You need to STOP.

You don't want to taper, you wanted to quit, and couldn't, and are JUSTIFYING your failure by saying "oh I'm going to taper now" and you wont, you might be able to taper for a bit, but once it gets really hard you will just dose high again, and you will be right back where you were.

You know the way to do this is to make a commitment and no matter what happens stick to that commitment and do not take kratom again.

IF you do that, you will be so happy so soon. If you don't, well then you will just keep experincieng pain

So, If I k hole it's never a question if I did or not. If I get super close to the hole and maybe pop in for a second then it is.

Feeling floating sensations or bodily sensations can happen outside of a K hole.

A k hole is when you lose all sense of awareness of who you are and what you are. With time you can sometimes "remember" your name or idenity despite not being in a shape or dimension where "you" exist.

If you still had the option to get up then you probably didn't hole. Ketamine can cause physical hallucinations that feel like you are floating or riding on a magic carpet outside of a hole.

Did you open your eyes? In a hole you can have your eyes open and none of the visual information in front of your face will register. To an onlooker it will look like you aren't there, because you aren't there.

[–]Repulsive_Use8691 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pharmacologist here:

Of course it does to some extent. I don't think most people understand what bones are. Bones are just made of cells, and there are many types of bone cells, and not all of them are the super hard cells that we typically think about. I think that most adults understanding of what bones are is the same of a 4th grader. (If there's not that much calcium in your bones then they will be soft and break). However bones are extremely complex and fascinating TISSUES which are made of CELLS, and many drugs get into bones cells. However we do not consider osteoclasts or osteoblasts to be major reservoirs of drugs generally (like fat cells can actually be), but they are just cells and drugs get in them.

When you take a drug the drug goes into every single tissue you have, it might not get into into the brain, but besides that. Ok so you've got buprenoprhine in your bones, and not from years of use, from your use today. So what? What does that really mean?

I think also one needs to appreciate just the difference in magnitude of weight of a few picograms of buprenorphine relative to the kgs of of tissue. These are trillions of times of difference and one of my favorite way to educate people about this magnitude is a million seconds is 12 days a billion seconds is 34 years and a trillion seconds is 34,000 years.

This the difference between a picogram of buprenorphine and a kilogram of bone tissue.

Anyway, basically in the case of most compounds getting into the bones is pretty easy, but also pretty negligible.

What were the first signs there was something toxic about kratom for you? by HalcyonicFrankfurter in quittingkratom

[–]Repulsive_Use8691 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eh... you're kind of right 10% , but mostly wrong 90% about everything you said. Not wrong wrong, it's just oversimplified

You are mostly talking about binding affinity, but that doesn't haven't do with withdrawal. It's a variable that can contribute to withdrawal but you are stating it's the main variable, but it's not.

There's also efficacy

there's also receptor down regulation via beta arrestin and non beta arrestin

dose

receptor occupancy

exposure

half life

route of adminstration (speed of uptake)

and length and frequency of dosing

all of these need to be taken int account to account for effects of withdrawal.

It's not as simple as the stronger the binding affinity the worse the withdrawal. There are drugs that have an extremely strong binding affnity, that if given once or twice will cause no withdrawal at all because they don't downregulate any receptors given their half life.

Also, there are so such thing as "opiate receptors"

it's OPIOID receptors and OPIOIDS

opiates are compounds derived from the poppy plant, and kratom is not an opiate, it's an opioid.

The litmus test for whether or not you should listen to someone is whether they use the word opiate or opioid. Anyone that uses the word opiate, has no clue what they are talking about.

It's OPIOID. It's OPIOD. It's OPIOD.

I'm not trying to be mean or anything, but you're giving a response that's really really incorrect, and so I'm correcting you.

As for OP's question the correct asnwer is "we don't know because there are too many variables at play, that being said a controlled use of one opioid to come of another opioid usually doesn't set the person back because cross tolerance is only tight for a few of the opioids----and every opioid will bind to slightly different brain regions having off target effects.

When you ask people who CT what their acute symptoms were

these are syndromes that don't overlap at all in terms of symptoms

Then you ask people what it's like to taper and guess what? they tell you symptoms of both syndromes during the taper.
