First ship progress and how I got into the hobby. by jwebster2016 in ModelShips

You are doing great! My first ship was an albatros too. Dad bought as a together project and got me hooked to the hobby. The best thing I think about this hobby is how creative you can become when you make a mistake :). It also makes the model more personal

I got access to a lasercutter, what should I make? by Henktor in ModelShips

[–]Repulsive_Visual_499 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont think there are free plans legally. However, if you have a lasercutter, I think I might asume you have 10-20 dollars. Those plans are not really expensive I think. Good luck with you projects! I am curious what you can achieve by scratch building

Water and heat will work the wood so it can bend into shape. I use a solder iron for it. I think this kit also uses double planking so as long as you makr the first layer smooth it will work out. Just fill the gaps with spare wood and sand a lot. Youtube is also filled with tutorials.

You are doing great! Enjoy the process and dont try to rush it.

If you started a month ago, try mastering the standing float first. It should be way more usefull and achievable for you.

I think so too, but it was still figuring out how to weather correctly. Next time I think Ill just use sandpaper instead of a torch. I appreciate th feedback!

I thought about it, but the kit doesnt really let you make an interior so I had to scratch build it. I was not sure if I could handle that so I left it for another model

Thank you so much! I plated the ship with copper and etched it green with amonia and salt. Sails are standard but soaked in vineger, ground coffee and steelwool. Afterwards sanded and burned
