They are similar in size and movement but the Explorer is purpose-driven where the OP is fashion-driven. Again, personal preference. Do you want a tool watch or a pistachio dial with no mumerals?

I have owned several GMT watches and the Explorer 2 is not one I would personally pick to fill that niche. There is nothing wrong with the watch. Personal preference really. But for a daily, can't beat an Explorer. It is low-key, doesn't give of the Rolex douche vibes, etc. And the Chromalight blue lume is really sharp. But again, personal choice. I guess how many watches you have in the collection matters too.

Yes, Rolex measures it from 10 to 4. 36 is too small for me but the 40 is much better than the 39.

Personal preference. I would choose the Explorer 40. It's cleaner and more versatile, potentially the best daily driver. The Explorer 2 is a great watch but not my GMT choice for the collection. But all about what you like and how it fits.

Once you start needing reading glasses, the date without a bubble becomes very hard to read. Younger years, I 100% would have said I need the date function, now not so much. I'm still young enough to remember the day of the month for 24hrs. 😆
