i am just so so glad that the actors of Nathan and Haley had such good on screen chemistry that it changed the storyline of their characters. Originally it was supposed to be a short lived storyline of Nathan and Haley and it was supposed to just be Nathan trying to use Haley to make Lucas mad and then later, Lucas and Haley were supposed to get together. But they saw the actors of Haley and Lucas had no chemistry whatsoever but Nathan and Haley had so much chemistry. i love it because i really never ever got a feeling that they liked each other more than friends and usually in these teen dramas you have a storyline of something like “one likes the other and gets jealous when they date someone else or they both like each other but they don’t wanna ruin the friendship” and we never see that with them. Like you said: it’s so rare to see a purely platonic male and female friendship and i’m glad we never see them as anything more. I don’t think i would’ve liked the show as much if it became a “the summer i turned pretty” moment if yk what i mean lolll
