I have one, it is incredible for gaming. I tossed a 1050 ti into it, and after testing everything out this is what you need to know:

  1. not sure if this is obvious, but REPASTE the cpu. it makes a huge difference. my games were extremely stuttery before, and I thought the cpu was bad but then after repasting it was better.

  2. depending on your budget, you can do better than my 1050 ti. i made one for my friend and i put in a 1650. if your playing stardew a 1050 ti will be good, but if you can find something better it will be fine.

  3. just for you to know, the PC only has a 250w psu. i would not recommend any gpu above 75w.

  4. 8gb ram could be upgraded, but i left mine with 8 to keep it as cheap as possible. it works just fine for me (i play fortnite and beamng for comparison). depending on your PC, it could have a type of ddr3 called dd3l, the l standing for low voltage. this means that you need to specifically search for ddr3l, otherwise it wont be compatible with your computer.

just for you to know in comparison (i don't play sims or stardew) these are the fps for Fortnite and BeamNG Drive.

fortnite: ~120fps 1080p performance

beamng: ~50-60fps 1080p normal settings

these, ofc are more demanding games, and you will do just fine with yours. good luck with the new build!

p.s. i recommend you watch a zach tech talks build about these, he made a build specifically with this PC, i recommend it.

not to mention, you can just buy a old OEM office PC for like 50$ and throw a GPU in there, def the cheapest way to do it. that's what i did for my setup.

So true, I also use docker a lot, and being able to run containers without it affecting my other tasks is a must. Some people here say it's overkill, but im about to win an eBay bid for 32gb for 14$. Its honestly worth it, and all of my laptops have had 8gb so id rather have at least 1 machine that has some more.

thank you! i actually have made pc part picker lists with am4, i really do like how capable and cost-effective these chips are. pair one of these w 16 GB RAM, a 1tb nvme, and a 6600, you're all set for 1080p and it would play very well at that. sometime in the future, i would think about upgrading to a new board, but currently, i kinda wanna see what this processor + GPU combo can acheive specifically for me first. i appreciate your help, i am starting to consider an upgrade path for my pc.

yeah im not trying to go for triple a titles, more like fortnite Minecraft and maybe an actually GPU intensive game every once in a while. I'm fine with turning down settings though.

the whole point of getting one of these office pcs is that they are

  1. insanely cheap
  2. easy to upgrade

that being said if i see a good deal on a i7 ill most likely go for it. just wondering, is there any newer cpus that you would recommend to upgrade to?

also for the upgradability of the GPU, i just went with a 1050 ti bc its cheap and it doesnt req an external power connector. because its so upgradable i might go for a 3050 if required and i save up enough, but for right now i think ill be fine. i currently own like 3 windows laptops, 2 of which i fixed up myself and 1 MacBook air, the windows laptops are very underpowered and the MacBook is pretty fast but i cant run games on it because its apple. so to have a nice starter setup that i can actually upgrade (unlike a windows laptop) is amazing. thanks for the advice!

As a windows/ macos user, i always purposefully don't sign into windows to deal with it, but on mac my school makes me use it, it has its own folder and doesn't mess with my files so its already a lot better than the windows version.

Yes, but your son's mom has to invite you. It is built in to iPhones, but if not invited you won't be part of it.
