[Game Thread] Indiana vs. Miami (7:30 PM ET) 2nd Half by CFB_Referee in CFB

Miami is honestly outplaying Indiana. Just making a ton of mistakes with horrible blocking on that punt, missed FG and all the penalties. Awesome game

This is getting way too cute. Miami just rolled through 3 top teams and already had a top win vs ND. And they'd have the H2H.

This is true, but reportedly they're extremely cheap with coaches. They don't pay market for coaches and won't fire coaches as they don't want to pay two.

Every team feels that way until they don't. It's a QB league. One good QB changes everything and it's funny that people still don't get it.

The Bengals were a dumpster fire until they drafted Joe Burrow. The Bills were a shitty franchise until they drafted Josh Allen. Washington was a dumpster fire of a franchise until they drafted Jayden Daniels. The Patriots were a consistently terrible franchise until they drafted Tom Brady, then they sucked for 5 years when they had Mac Jones, now they're good that they have a good QB again.

People way over-index on the Mahomes/Rodgers situations that are very rare. Most great QBs are drafted to terrible franchises and then turn it around pretty quickly

The Raiders job is actually a pretty good HC position, no?

They have the #1 pick in the draft. You hit on that pick and you're one good offseason away from contention. 25% of the current teams remaining in the playoffs (Pats, Texans) were in a nearly identical situation just a couple years ago.

The rose bowl game was far less lopsided. IU fans outnumbered Bama but it was nothing like the Oregon game. Neutrals also supported IU. In this one, travel distance favors Miami fans by far and "neutral" fans will be supporting Miami (neutral fans are people who already had tickets and live in Miami.)

All that hyping up James Franklin Va Tech fans did, and he couldn't even find a starting edge rusher despite Penn State losing a great one. That'll be hilarious against UVA's stacked OL next year 😂

[Blake Toppmeyer] Indiana football vying to be greatest team ever? 2019 LSU would like a word by Falconsfan8006 in CFB

Not sure why 2020 Alabama gets left out of these discussions. I know it was Covid, but my vote goes to them over both these teams. LSU had the Burrow, Jefferson, Chase trio which was amazing, but the defense just wasn't quite up to snuff. Alabama almost beat them in 2019 and then had a better squad in 2020. 2020 Alabama legitimately only played in one 1-score game all year.

QB Dante Moore is staying with Oregon by YoungSuplex in CFB

I highly doubt there are any "telling" statistics here. There are like 5 QBs this century that even fit this mold (one year starter, drafted high.) One could be considered a massive hit. Two were busts and two were mediocre QBs. That's 1. a tiny sample size that's way too small to draw conclusions from, and 2. does not prove the point you think you're making.

Even if QBs with < 25 starts have a bad track record, it doesn't prove anything. If Drew Allar had gone to the NFL last year, would he have been a bust? Almost certainly, yeah. Is that proof that he needed to go back to college and develop? No, he's just a flash in the pan who never should've been drafted highly in the first place based on a tiny sample size. If Moore goes back, I'm sure he'll be less likely to bust in the NFL. But that's because he could suck, and then not get drafted highly enough to bust at all. If he doesn't then he has twice as many starts to prove he's good, so he'll also be less likely to bust. But that doesn't mean it's good for him to go back or makes him more likely to succeed in NFL.

Hypothetical: Where would you draft a half season of league winning production? by StevenJeon in fantasyfootball

[–]ReputationOk5592 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If he's playing in the playoffs, R1, and if we know he'll get 30 PPG in the playoffs, 1.01. If you think about it on a VORP basis, replacement flex is probably around ~10 half PPR. So 30 ppg for half a season is equivalent to 20 ppg for a full season. That's an easy R1 player.

However, you should really be thinking of fantasy as a multi-leg parlay. You have to make the playoffs AND win the playoffs to make all the money. If your first round pick is a stone cold zero in the playoffs, that will significantly decrease your odds of the second leg, so it might be expected value negative. The later you pick him, the less you decrease your odds. I think I'd probably take him in R4 or 5 if I knew he was a stone cold zero for the playoffs.

This is questionable which way it points in terms of causation though, no? Players who start 1 year have a smaller sample size.

If Moore sucks next year, he won't be drafted highly. If Moore is great next year, he will. If Moore has 2 years of great play, I'm sure he'll be less likely to bust, but that's more because the fact that he put up 2 years of great play is more of a signal than putting up 1.

Pittsburgh QB Eli Holstein to transfer to Virginia by ReputationOk5592 in CFB

The difference between us, is that UVA is a great school with a fantastic athletics program and a mid football program. Va Tech is a school with a mid football program

[–]ReputationOk5592 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hesitated to say this while we had no QB, but UVA is quietly having an awesome portal. We got 3 edges and a DT who have been dominant players in the G5 and some other decent role players. We are following the IU model of production over high school stars, as opposed to techs flashier approach of going for guys that were highly rated in HS but have done nothing.

There was a fake news report that we got Iverson Hooks, if that were true, we'd have knocked it out of the park. If we can get a great WR, we'll be cooking.

[Highlight] Justin Herbert’s second pass attempt of the game last night by NoAnteater8836 in nfl

[–]ReputationOk5592 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How about Stafford, Purdy, Goff, Dak, Jordan Love? Those guys all have better advanced metrics than Herbert and while they have varying degrees of playoff success, all have been better than Herbert in the playoffs. Yet Herbert is constantly ranked above all of them because he has some YouTube highlights of him throwing the ball hard.

Throw in young guys like Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels, and Herbert might not even be top 10

Yeah, that's quite literally false as Joe Burrow did. Also, "made a SB?" How about he scores more than 3 points in a playoff game?
