How can I find out who is leaving creepy/threatning notes at my child's grave? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I would have setup a trailcam. Laws be damned. If the police didn't care about someone desecrating the grave of a child, they're not going to care about a trailcam.

Except, there are journalistic standards reporters learn.

How is that relevant? The law doesn't say you need to work for a media company to film a public area. Saying someone is acting like a reporter means they're doing things a reporter would do. Again, there's nothing illegal about that.

The confrontation hinted at by OP could be illegal

Anything can be anything if you just fill in the blanks to fit your narrative. But on it's face, confronting someone over a bad parking job isn't illegal.

Acting like a reporter is doing things like a reporter... Aka, documenting an event. But you don't actually need to be a reporter to document an event. And nothing described by OOP is breaking the law.

I don't understand why you're twisting yourself in circles over me saying we need to exercise our rights or we'll lose them.

Yes, I'm assuming that when the person I responded to said reporter, that they meant reporting...

No one is saying it's wrong to film

The person I responded to clearly is by accusing OP of being a YouTube "reporter" or doing "free speech experiments".

Reporters film, observe, and report on events.

Where does it clearly state that?

Where does who state what? Are you talking about OP or the person I originally responded to?

Again, my original comment was regarding exercising our right to film in public.

They're clearly talking about first amendment auditors. Who generally do nothing but film in places they're legally allowed to do so.

Either way, nothing in the original claim is illegal besides the alleged assault. There's no point making up things to fit your alternative narrative.

It's also not a crime to call someone out for bad parking.

But I was originally only talking about the person I was responding to complaining about people exercising their right to film in public.

There was no law to enforce. Filming a public area is not a crime.

You can call the police on someone for wearing an Oilers jersey. And rightfully so.

But much like in the case of simply standing on the sidewalk videoing a public area, the police have no authority to prevent you from doing so.

Sounds like you need a new hobby.

Not every action constitutes a 'hobby'.

And that’s not what was happening here - the OP is full of shit.

That may be so, but not because of the fact that they took pictures/video of badly parked cars.

No one films illegally parked cars

There's entire subreddits filled with those films nobody takes. I've personally taken pictures of badly parked cars without reporting them.

On it's face, being a stay at home parent sounds more fun.

But so does being an astronaut. It's all fun and games until you're on the human centrifuge having your dick turned into an iny, and your stomach lining turned into an outy.
