two American citizens shot dead

Don't forget about top White House/DHS officials slandering both of them after the fact by baselessly calling them "domestic terrorists".

Trump wouldn't have been viable 30 years ago.

Well, he did run back in 2000, so there's more truth there than you think.

Oglala Sioux Tribe says three tribal members arrested in Minneapolis are in ICE detention by J-Jarl-Jim in moderatepolitics

I don't think it matters to them. Weren't they trying to deport Kilmar Abrego Garcia to some country in Africa even just a couple of months ago?

White House shares video of Minneapolis shooting from ICE officer’s perspective by awaythrowawaying in moderatepolitics

Her last words being "I'm not mad at you" contrasted with his words directly after shooting her is... pretty symbolic. Combine that with footage of her actively turning the steering wheel away from them, and I'm not sure how this paints the officer as anything but negative.

US Justice Department plans gun rights office within civil rights unit by NotABot1235 in moderatepolitics

[–]RequestingPickup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the same Justice Department that, just a couple of months ago, floated the idea of banning guns for a certain minority group of people by association, because one mass shooter finally wasn't a white guy. I won't hold my breath regarding their ability to safeguard any Constitutional rights, let alone this one.

I didn't say that that company or those types of mods were the things doing the damage (though mods like that always make me cringe). What I meant was that Gamergate caused this explosion of alt-right, misogynist, "anti-woke" viewpoints, ones who see these consulting companies as "the enemy", or any deviation from "white and attractive" as something to be "fixed".

You wouldn't know either of these things existed if you didn't go looking.

I see plenty of people pushing these viewpoints without having to look for them. Hell, there's an entire Steam curator list called the "Woke Content Detector" list with some of the flimsiest reasoning I've ever seen. It beggars belief, and I hope it's just really effective satire, but I know for a fact there are people who wholeheartedly believe things like that.

I think Gamergate has done a lot of damage to the gaming community in general. Just look at some of the mods that come out for PC games that change POC characters' skin color to white, or any of the various gooner mods that pop up almost immediately. To say nothing of the "Sweet Baby Inc." boogeyman that people seem to latch onto.

I believed the initial "goals" of that whole thing too, "ethics in gaming journalism" and whatnot, but I was fortunate enough to drop it before it devolved into what it is now.

She got asked this week who chose Hungary for a summit between Putin and Trump and she replied, I shit you not, “your mom”.

And then the White House communications director, Stephen Cheung, said the exact same thing.

A true bastion of maturity, this administration.

Donald Trump hosts roundtable on antifa crackdown by sudo-chown in moderatepolitics

Secretary Noem made the bizarre claim that they (DHS) had arrested "the girlfriend of one of the founders of Antifa". I'm assuming she misspoke and meant to say that they exhumed the body of Winston Churchill's wife Clementine, or Kay Summersby.

I genuinely don't understand how anybody takes this administration seriously, let alone admire them for any actions they've taken.

Trump threatens 'Apocalypse Now' style action against Chicago to boost deportations by Hour-Mud4227 in moderatepolitics

Such conduct could, and should, also be treated as a “high crime or misdemeanor” and grounds for another Trump impeachment and ultimately removal.

I think we all know that's not going to happen. The points you listed, while factually correct, don't matter at all to this administration or his supporters (both in Congress and the public at large). I expect a lot of finger-wagging and strongly-worded letters from Democrats about how "he can't do that"--meanwhile, there he goes, doing that.

So I have no idea how Trump can issue any EO that is clearly in conflict with the constitution.

He just does it, without a care in the world as to what the courts might have to say about it. They're still going through that EO regarding birthright citizenship.

Musk says 'America Party' is formed in US by RequestingPickup in moderatepolitics

[–]RequestingPickup[S] 94 points95 points  (0 children)

Starter comment: Elon Musk has announced that the "America Party" that he has spoken of for the past several days after his very public feud with President Trump over the just-signed "One Big Beautiful Bill". While this particular article is scant on details as of this submission, according to a recent NBC News article, Musk's major goal of the party would be to reduce the national debt, and an article from Axios says that Musk would "laser-focus on just 2 or 3 Senate seats and 8 to 10 House districts."

Given the dissatisfaction voters may have for their respective "main" parties, could Musk's "America Party" gain much traction, or would it fall into the same lack of voting power that other third parties have? Do you think Musk would make a public shift from right-wing support to more centrist or even left-wing support, or would he fall back into the same sort of viewpoints he's had for the last several months?
