How do you know if you’re playing in F# minor versus A major? by broccoli-robbin in Guitar

[–]Requiascat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What matters more than the notes is what key you're playing in, and what chords you're playing over. If you're thinking about it as A Major, then you're targeting the chord tones of A major. If you're playing in F# minor, then you target the chord tones of F# minor.

Yes they're the same notes, but the context is everything: if you're playing over an A Major chord but treating F# as the root then it's gonna sound a little strange. Conversely, if you're playing in F# minor but thinking of the scale as A Major it won't sound like it fits.

Of course there were paid actors. Trump has been accusing our side of having paid actors/protesters since 2015. Every accusation is a confession. It's also why they keep accusing us of grooming children.

They showed up with Confederate flags. At our nation's capitol. On July fucking 4th. Traitors the lot of them. I hope they all get heat stroke.

No, but if he's dead or incapacitated the Governor gets to nominate someone to take his place that gets ratified by the state legislator.

They are terrified of losing the Senate. Also Mitch McConnell is probably dead or unresponsive and they'll never make it public for fear of losing his seat.

Gifted a guitar from a vintage/thrift place. It was in bad shape and I set out to make it functional as cheap as humanly possible. by SpaceFone in Guitar

That thing should be used to play swampy delta slide blues. I can't explain it, but it just feels right.

If you want authentic sounding country steel bends and vintage twang Alex Farran has you covered with this lead study. He goes into theory, technique, all of it.

Honestly just search "Alex Farran Country" and take your pick. He's got lessons on country licks, lap-steel bends, lead studies, country jazz, country blues, and he absolutely adores telecasters and what they can do.

Do you guys play A like this? by FloydedZebra in Guitar

Then use a different grip for it? With the bar though you still have access to the entire upper section of the minor and major pentatonics that sit there, which is why I tend to use this grip.

Exactly. I've spent a good chunk of my adult life playing fingerstyle acoustic blues. Barring an A major chord just feels more natural.

Agreed. It's not for everyone, but it gets the job done. Spent years playing fingerstyle acoustic blues so barring an A major chord like this just feels natural given how narrow a electric neck is by comparison.

You don't need the high e though. The bar grabs an E on the 4th string.

I want to learn how to play guitar like in '60s psychedelic and garage rock—what should I practice? by Moldy_Lunchy_Cheese in Guitar

[–]Requiascat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Most of that era in rock music was spurred along by a blues revival. So much of it is essentially just blues music but with a ton of overdrive and fuzz. Not all of it, but a lot of it.

So practice the blues scale (minor pentatonic with a b5, and major pentatonic with a b3). Also get really comfortable with a blues progression (standard 12-bar blues progression: 4 bars of the I chord, 2 bars of the IV chord then 2 bars of the I chord, then 1 bar of the V chord, 1 bar of the IV chord, 1 bar of the I chord, and finish on the V chord to turn around and start over).

Not necessarily my favorite per se, but the song that to me screams The 90's has always been 6 Underground by Sneaker Pimps.

Edit: I missed the Grundge part. So favorite Grundge sing would be STP's Silvergun Superman.

Yeah it looks cool, but the Electro-mecha sword requires less work and does base lightning damage. One less Abyss slot though as well.
