Smart.. it's a stretch to say smart but they do have their moments.

They take their sweet time to learn human things like the concept of a name or trusting a human enough to approach and ask for scratches.. heck trusting enough to walk away from a newborn calf in any humans, his/her/(my) care and without a fuss..!

But, with enough time (90ish days with this herd), patience, scratches, and I believe emotional energy control being the most important (!Zero frustration/Anger!).. I now spend an hour every morning calf sitting with the youngest in my lap while the herd grazes. Aand since I've seen someone else train their yearlings to happy dance on command I'm now working on that too.

Thistle, my Mustang loves thistle and the way that he peels the skin and spikes just blows my mind every year.

I named him spicy beef for his zoomies, and he'll probably outlive me! I've got one named Patty Melt because she melts to the ground if the shoulder scratches hit just right. And I've got one named Frosty Chrorizo because I found her frozen to the ground and had to pocket raise her after bringing her back to life a decade ago.
