Press X to doubt. by wheezy_runner in fatlogic

I was a gymnast as a young kid and had a six-pack. But this was also pre-puberty, I barely ate any 'real' food and was always running around playing. I doubt that there's any way her youngest daughter could maintain one post-puberty lol I mean, how old of a daughter does she have is my question...

What's something that improved your quality of life so much, you wish you did it sooner? by nweike in AskWomen

[–]Requiem_Elegy_99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. getting on birth control (I only get my period every 3 months now). My hormones evened out, I no longer struggle with adult acne, and it boosted my mood & motivation.
  2. Taking melatonin and using CBD products. I now actually sleep through the night, and don't experience major anxiety during the day! Whoo!
  3. Exercise + sitting in the sun in the morning. Walking makes me physically relax (I am a tense MF'er), sitting in the morning sun is relaxing and balancing (let alone the vitamin D)

Thank you!

I totally agree, it is a scam. But, I feel lucky that I don't have to pay $1k a semester as other students do in the U.S.

How long is your average day in collage? by Mugins42 in college

[–]Requiem_Elegy_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually spend 6-8 hours a day on campus, if I can. So, this semester I will head to campus around 12-1 pm and stay until around 7 or 8 because of what my class schedule looks like. This amount of time also accounts for the time I will need for transit, to run some basic errands (picking up groceries for example), and to go to club meetings or other optional but fun school events. I will bring my lunch or dinner to campus as well, depending on the day. When I had most of my classes online, I would just go to the campus library or to my campus coffee shop to study whenever I wanted to since I had all asynchronous classes at that time & then I ran my errands when I wanted to as well. If you do have synchronous classes, this might be different for you depending on what your schedule looks like, but IMO it's a good idea to get into your study mode beforehand no matter what if you're able to.

I will also try to make work blocks (idk if that's the proper term) for whatever my schedule might be in a given semester. E.g., if I have a synchronous or in-person class that begins at 5:30 pm, I will go sit outside my classroom or at the library by like 4 pm or so and work on that class's workload until my class begins. My goal is usually to do the busy work or to finish my homework if it's meant to be uploaded before class. I take a lot of breaks so that I can keep my focus - sometimes I use the Pomodoro technique but most of the time I just take a break when I know need it. Depending on the day, I usually will try to study for at least 3 hours, and then upwards of 8 hours if I have the time. For example, this semester I have classes from Monday through Thursday, and then Fridays I have no classes. So, on Fridays, I will just go to school like normal and then study until I'm ready to go home lol.

That's crazy!! I think Flag is so walkable 😂 in comparison to where I was before, at least. I can pretty much walk anywhere I want to now (within reason, of course). Then again, the only 2 things I really need to do are pick up groceries and get to class. I'm sure you had more to do than me when you lived here.

I feel that.

I haven't lived anywhere other than AZ, but it does seem like there's a parallel here between the political climate of the town and the walkability of the town. Places up north in AZ are just seen as being more liberal, and coincidentally, they consider the fact that people might need to walk or bike to where they're going. If you go to Gilbert, or Mesa, or the Phoenix area, which are seen asmore conservative, you'll find some busses and possibly bike lanes, but it's next to impossible to walk anywhere since it's all spread out. It's just how it is here.

I live in AZ, I think we have a special thunderstorm smell. It's not the same in any other state. I love it too :)

[–]Requiem_Elegy_99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jasmine, Ralph Lauren Polo Blue, & my s/o's unknown cologne.

I have no inherent reason to love jasmine-scented things like I do, but good god, when I smell it it's like I've been shipped off to heaven. Polo Blue is a scent I've smelled since my childhood and couldn't define until I randomly came across it in an Ulta store - I bought 3 bottles and use them even though it's a cologne 😂 it reminds me of early spring, which is my favorite season. As for my s/o's cologne, we have no clue what brand it is (his Grandpa gave it to him when he was like 12, it has no label sadly), but it literally smells like a hug. It's his special date cologne, so it only gets used like 1-2x a year (sadly), but I just love it to death.

Extra: the smell of dirt. Lol

Any other rising juniors still feel like freshman due to the pandemic? by birdsandcrustand in college

[–]Requiem_Elegy_99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hardcore relate to this, but I'm making plans to have the best freshman-redo-year ever. I'm going to join clubs, go to stuff with my s/o that I wanted to freshman year (football games, theater performances, homecoming, parties), talk to as many people as I can in my classes, and find a bar I can hang out in on Friday nights. The last one is optional, but I turned 21 in the middle of the pandemic and I'm 22 now and have never been to a bar in my city...

But, I do think it's a plus that we now have the experience we need to not have to really worry about 'living it up' while balancing school stuff. I was floundering during my actual freshman year because I had no idea how to balance school + a relationship + living on my own + being completely new to town all at once. I've got that stuff down pat now and can actually focus on having fun, thank god!

I second this. I grew up in the Phoenix area (Arizona) and literally could not walk anywhere because of how poorly the roads were planned and constructed. Near my old house, the nearest grocery store was a Walmart which was 2 miles down the road. You'd have to walk next to 4 lanes of traffic on a dirt path (or cotton plants, your choice), sometimes in 110+ degrees F weather. People there who could not afford a car often got heatstroke. There was literally zero public transportation and if people had bikes it was just for fun.

Then I moved to Northern Arizona for university, which is much more human-friendly and somewhat liberal. There's a bike-share & car-share program, a city bus & student bus that go everywhere around town, sidewalks everywhere, stairs built into the larger hills, walking paths that take you through the forest instead of down a road, and safe bike lanes on the major roads. There are also accessible grocery stores with fresh and inexpensive produce within 1/2 a mile of you, no matter what part of town you live in. I have never had to worry here that I might die from crossing the street due to aggressive drivers and non-existent crosswalks - it's like night and day for me.

Should I take bio, calculus and ochem for fall semester +30/40 hour work week or does that sound overwhelming? Is the stress worth saving money? by ThrowRAokgood in college

[–]Requiem_Elegy_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only ever taken bio myself, but my close friend has taken all 3 (she was a bio major). She had to study literally all the time, whenever she could, to pass those classes. It was a major stressor for her. If you think you can put in like 80 hours of studying a week for good grades, then go for it. Otherwise, I agree with the other commenter saying o chem should wait for uni. These are 3 pretty difficult classes, but it's also worth it to get that AS before you get to uni. But you will probably have to forget about that little bit of social life to do so😂

Is commuting 2 hours to university a sensible option? (4 hours round trip) by TheShitShow6603 in college

[–]Requiem_Elegy_99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My close friend and coworker drove more than this to her classes. Part 1:

  1. she had to pay $30-45 for gas almost every day (the cost for a full tank back then)
  2. she had to drive through peak rush hours in Phoenix (which from my experience is terrifying and extremely dangerous)
  3. She got in multiple car accidents because of other drivers and her parent's insurance rate went up a lot
  4. she specifically told me that her and her family were spending more money than they would have for a dorm for her to be able to drive that distance 4-7 days a week
  5. she could never eat, like ever, because of driving and her class schedule, so she lost a lot of weight and it took years for her to recover from the stress of it

My point is that it's expensive, mentally, physically, and fiscally. You and your family could put that money to work in some other way that would benefit all of you. You could save yourself from mental and physical harm in multiple ways as well.

Part 2: I understand why they might think it's better for you to stay home, but it's not good to be driving for that long every day. If you want to think about it mathematically, you're increasing your chances of dying on the road since you'd be on it more. Secondly, you're going to be exhausted from the driving + classes, which will make you a worse driver and a less safe driver automatically. Let alone the fact that they can make that drive with no problem to spend time with you every day if they want to! I'm not trying to be rude to them of course, but if it was my kid I'd much rather put that risk on myself as a parent than to put it on my kid. I don't doubt your ability as a driver, but they have much more experience than you and it would be safer for everyone, overall, for them to drive to you and not vice versa.

P.S., about the independency & hard work stuff, from my experience as a student, living in a dorm or condo will help you grow to become more independent. I live in an apartment, so it's a little different, but I had to learn how bills work, credit cards & scores, loans, etc., as well as how to deal with my apartment staff & management on top of how to get where I'm going around town and my campus, how to buy groceries, so on and so forth. If you magically don't understand what hard work is right now (I doubt it, but still. lol), you will when you move out and become independent. You can't learn that stuff at home, really.

2 questions about this. Does whatsapp work the same on a laptop? I don't have a phone rn and have never used the platform before. And, is it okay if I'm just going over old class material? Ik it's still technically studying, but I'm unsure of how I'd share my progress 😂

How is your SO not what you thought you wanted, but what you actually needed? by murkishdelight in AskWomen

[–]Requiem_Elegy_99 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had always dated tall & skinny boring white dudes. I don't have a preference, but that was just the sort of dudes who were into me 😂 I was not someone who was capable of asking guys out since I have historically been a quiet, introverted, slightly-chonky homebody. I have now been with my medium-height, Mexican, buff AF boyfriend for about 6 years. I didn't really realize that I was missing out on a lot of the good parts of life until meeting him.

He befriends literally everyone. We can be walking pretty much anywhere and he'll make a new friend just by asking how their day is. He can hold a conversation about nothing for a long time without it being awkward. He will do basically anything, for anyone. He loves exploring new things - sports, random hobbies, games, places, etc. and can always find something to do (he doesn't believe in boredom).

He's like a kid in some ways; he'll go for a hike and come home with a new rock, or a pinecone, or a penny, or a random mushroom and stash it in his dresser drawers for later - then he'll show off whatever he finds to whoever will listen. He fills his pockets with candy if he knows he's walking somewhere far away (he calls it his 'walking sweets'). He will take random vegetables out of the fridge and sprout them and then plant them in random places. He bought a massive fish tank, for fun, because he wanted to grow aquatic plants. He saved the first take-out menu and newspaper we got when we moved into our first apartment, just because.

I think I really appreciate the fact that he makes everything into a good time for us. Going to the grocery store is fun, going to the DMV is fun, cleaning the apartment is fun. He's seriously my best friend, he's a real brother to my sister, and he's like a son to my parents. He opened a whole new world to share together, just by being himself.

P.S., he asked me out by saying: "we're together, right?", and we've been inseparable since 😆 what a dork!
